With the rapid recovery of domestic economy, the cargo volume in Yangtze River has gradually reached to the level at the economic properous period and it is still in great demand for bulk cargo ships in Yangtze River. This paper discusses the modeling of ship structure with the method of parametrization design.During the design stage, the professional designers usually make structural design in accordance with the specifications and standars. It is a process of contitued progress which is composed of plan concepting, drawing, performance analyzing and determinating of a final plan. However, the plan is asked to be revised several times because of some factors that can not meet the requirements or those overlap and interact with each other. The direct calculation for ship structure should begin with the geometric modeling, whereas it is much more complicated to revise a 3D geometric model. In this paper, it uses the method of parameterization modeling, by which designers can rapidly develop a 3D model of the cargo hold segment by imputting basic parameters and be released from the complicated modeling work.The specific process begins from the extracting, weighing, and ranking of the structural features of the Yangtze River cargo hold segment, to the developing of parameter model, which sets up constraint relation between feature parameters, dimension and position parameters in particular, so as to realize parameter driving.During the stage of programming, it uses the structured design method to make echelon design for the cargo hold segment, and it makes further development based on CATIA V5 by using Visual Basic for the 3D parameterized modeling.Based on the finite element method and software, it can calculate general and local strength for the cargo holds with the use of 3D model and direct calculating method, and it can also improve data accuracy and save time as well. Designers can validate the reasonability of structure through the simulation analysis. In this paper, the generated model is imported into MSC.Patran to make direct calculation for structural strength, and make results validated and verificated.The research results in this paper makes the geometric modeling less complicated and get revised rapidly, which shortens design cycle, improves design efficiency and flexibility and validates the reasonability of structure design.
