Yangtze River system is ranked the first of our country’s eight major riversystems, it has the longest navigable mileage, and it has watershed area of1.8millionsquare kilometers, it is also the first big river of Asia and the third big river of theworld. More than40percent of our country’s total economic output pooled in sevenprovinces and two cities along the Yangtze River, it has become the most importantriver, the largest and the busiest navigable river of our country. In recent years, therapid growth of foreign trade transportation demand accelerated the frequenteconomy exchanges between the Yangtze River and the coastal area and it alsogreatly increased the bulk import and export volume, which is laid a good foundationfor the rapid development of river-sea coordinated.First, this paper is to proceed from the Yangtze River waterway transportationsystem to analyze the geographical environment of the Yangtze River, the profile ofthe ports along the Yangtze River, the status of waterway construction and major portsdevelopment, and the bulk cargo transportation organization, and we learned that theYangtze River has a good geographical location, advanced shipping network, betterchannel conditions and favorable natural conditions. But at the same time, there arestill existshipping capacity is limited to some channels and Three Gorges ship lockcapacity is low and there are some shallows in midstream trunk, this issues can affectthe development of bulk cargo river-sea coordinated transportation of Yangtze River,so it urgently need countries and cities along the river to take some effective measuresto solve these problems.Secondly, this paper describes the three steps of bulk cargo river-sea coordinatedtransportation of Yangtze River transportation process and shows the flow chart oftransportation. And the transportation process includes inland road transport, inlandwaterway transport and marine transport. This paper also analyses four factors whichaffect the transportation network ofbulk cargo river-sea coordinated transportation ofYangtze River, the four factors are freight demand, channel construction, portconstruction and ship selection. It mainly analyses the process and extent ofinfluences which are impacted to the transportation network, and this four factors areinterrelated and inseparable and forming a virtuous cycle. In order to achieve the purpose of optimizing the layout of the transportationnetwork, the paper make a dummy level of the port group and set a number ofassumptions, then we overall consider some constraints which are ships’ tonnages, channels conditions, ports conditions, the supply of goods, the demand for goods andother constraints. At the end, we finally establish a model which makes a minimumgoal of total transportation cost.We use the instance applied in the model and make the operation, then we canget the selection of transport path, bulk port of receiving, bulk port of transshipment, ships’ tonnages and annual freight on each path and other related parameter which aregot under the condition of the lowest total transportation cost, then we can providesome constructive advices for the development of the bulk cargo river-seacoordinated transportation of Yangtze River.
