In the cooling water system at coastal power plants, it is important to arrange the inlet and the outlet for good cooling effect. In this paper, the theory on thermal diffusion about hydrodynamic-thermodynamic features and the basic design principles of the cooling water project are first presented. Then law of the thermal diffusion with basic current in different discharge angles is analyzed, and the flowing characteristics of eclipsed form arrangement, the process of thermal diffusion and the effects of some main factors on inlet temperature are investigated. The laws of the inlet temperature varying with the parameters are obtained and the reasons for that are discussed. Finally, the effect on thermal diffusion from wave is analyzed, and it is indicated that the impact on thermal diffusion is objectively existed.
