In recent years, with rapid development of automotive industry in our country, more and more demand on automotive safety is putting forward. Automobile safety has become one of the three major themes of automobile research. Being the important parts of the automobile, seat not only provides a comfortable traveling environment for passengers, but also plays a decisive role in the protection of people's safety, thus it become an important component in automobile research. Reasonable design of the automobile seat when the accident occurred can reduce injury to the crew. The design purpose of automobile seat'safety is to try to avoid the occurrence of failure of security. And the research about seat safety concentrates on the analysis of static strength, impact strength and fatigue strength.Firstly, on the base of referencing a great deal of literature, the internal and external developing trends of automobile seat is investigated, and research and development status about safety is discussed, and application of FEM in studies on seat system are summarized. According to the principle of reverse engineering, the automobile seat's 3D model is set up with CATIA software. Then by means of the finite element pre-processing software Hypermesh, the automobile seat's FE model is established.Then, according to the relevant laws and regulations about automobile seat, simulation on static stiffness was solved by finite element analysis software LS-DYNA. Through the relevant instrument, a bench test about static stiffness of seat was taken. Compared with the result of simulation and test, it showed that the model was Reliable and reasonable. Referring to GB 15083-2006 and GB 11550-1995, the seat assembly static strength,the seat back static Strength and the safety of head restrain were simulated by using finite element software MSC.Nastran and ABAQUS/Standard. Through simulation, the results revealed that the seat's strength met requirement of relevant laws and regulations. And then, by means of software MSC.Fatigue, the fatigue properties of Seat frame was simulated, and the seat's fatigue failure points was found.Finally, the contents and conclusions are summed up. Also some advice on the improvement of the later research is given. The finite element simulation of automobile seat can be served as a reference and practical significance when designing and developing a seat of such a type.
