Study On Converting Old Buildings Based On Sustainable Theory

With the rapid economic development of China, the speed of urban construction and urban regeneration is accelerating sustainably. In this urbanization process, there exists a regular phenomenon that many old buildings have been demolished to reestablish and most of them still have a long architecture life. The way of treating old buildings, which wastes a lot of urban resources and results in serious urban pollution, is opposite definitely with sustainable development strategy of China. With this social background, this thesis tries to use architecture theory to study how to convert and reuse urban old buildings reasonably under sustainable development context.Chongqing is the only municipality in west of China and economy center of cities along the Yangtze River. And in its rapid urban development process, Chongqing also meets a problem that many old buildings exited in main area in Chongqing need to renew. Chongqing urban planning authority planned to start a research named The Improvement Project Study of Old Buildings and Their Environment in Main Area of Chongqing in September 2008, and the purpose of this research is to convert old buildings to create a beautiful urban Image and comfortable living environment in Chongqing. As one member of the research team, I achieve some research practice and make a further study about converting old buildings in main area of Chongqing after finishing the research project.This thesis use current theories and practice about converting old buildings to analyze the existed problems of old buildings in main area of Chongqing and provide a related assess system and some converting solutions.Five parts to form the thesis.First Part (1,2chapter),to discusses the study background, study effects and definitions of related concepts, and to analyze the relation between sustainable theory, urban regeneration and converting old buildings, and analyze the domestic and foreign cases of converting old buildings.Second Part (3chapter),to Recall the historic and present urban construction of Chongqing, to the analyze the problems and reasons of old buildings in main area of Chongqing , on the above discussion ground, to analyze the socio-economic reasons of converting the old building deeply.Third Part (4chapter),to classify the urban space in Chongqing and analyze the characteristics of old buildings in different urban space of Chongqing, then to provide a access system; to make field research analysis in condition that refer the above assess system, and pointed out the current status and problems of old buildings in main area.Forth Part (5chapter), to provide converting solutions and strategies from three points, urban design, architecture design and urban planning management; to study these solutions discussed above by design practice.Fifth Part (6chapter), choose old buildings of two particular areas in Chongqing to covert design, in order to auxiliary design express to the article's theory achievement.
