An Investigation Into The Use And Optimized Design Research Of Waterscape In Residential Districts

Along with the rapid economic development and higher standard of living, waterscape has been widely set up in the residential districts in order to meet people's demands of entertainment and living. The waterscape has already been an indispensable element of residential environment and a key point in housing developer's propaganda.Apart from its visual and propaganda values, the residential waterscape functions more to satisfy the daily use and psychological needs of the residents. Much studies on the residential waterscape in the past mainly started from esthetics and the relations in picture composition in architecture and gardening, or simply from the ecological effects of waterscape, other than from the angle of human behavior and using.Theoretically based on place theory and environment-behavior, this thesis has made a fieldwork of the residential waterscapes in several living districts in Chengdu, learning the residents' behavioral features and their psychological needs concerning the waterscape, therefore summed up the general problems in the present residential waterscape designing. In view of these problems, the thesis has put forward designing suggestions from two aspects: human-based designing and environment-based designing. In addition, the suggestions of improving the using functions, making reasonable subarea, providing more participatable activities , improving environmental designing elements , improving the approachability and participatability, as well as improving changability and interests of the present residential waterscapes have also been discussed.
