With the rapid development of vehicle industry at home and abroad, lives of people is becoming convenient increasingly. But the subsequence is the traffic jam and frequent car accidents. Meanwhile, driving in the unacquainted area may easily lose direction, especially at night when the road signs and nearby scenery are dim. Thus, many countries in the world have developed various vehicle GPS to solve the common problem—"no way to pass"—that is existing in road traffic and highways at metropolis and cities of the world. It also improves the safety and efficiency of driving, in favor of ease the traffic flow, balance the schedule and control of the traffic.Vehicle Navigation System is a high-tech application system which combines Global Positioning System techniques, Geography Information System techniques and Wireless Communication. It is an important part of the Intelligent Transportation System. Meanwhile, CAN (Controller Area Network) bus is a serial communication protocol which efficiently supports distributed real-time control with a very high level of security, and it is also one of the most popular buses nowadays.The primary function of the system is:it receives the GPS positioning signals with GPS receivers of the mobile vehicle, puts the GPS signals into the computer through CAN-bus, analyses the vehicle current position information such as time, longitude, latitude etc and display them on the interface at real-time, meanwhile, stores the information into the database backward, besides that, the system combines with the electronic navigation map which has inquiry function, it will display the position of mobile vehicle dynamically, so as to make drivers know the exact position and help them to drive rightly and arrive at the correct destination with safety. Firstly, the thesis introduces the background and the significance of the project, summarizes the CAN-bus technology and the development status of the vehicle GPS. On the basis of the sum-up mentioned above the main content of the system is brought up. The principles of CAN-bus and GPS as well as the theory of database are also introduced. Besides, the thesis discusses the designing conception of the whole system and division of each function module. Furthermore, the final designing plan is described in detail. To realize the system, the thesis lays emphasis on two parts:the communication between PC and CAN-bus and the process of GPS info. In the end, draw the conclusion and make a further view.The using of the popular VC++ as the developing platform, combined with Access database backward, for fully considering the excellent expansibility and reusability of the system. The system runs smoothly through testing and reaches the purpose of the design.
