The realization of the parameterized design and virtual assembly of product is important to improving the design efficiency of the part.The development of 3D CAD demestically and internationally, as well as the situation of the designing and modeling software based on the 3D CAD are introduced in this article; and parameter-oriented solid design and virtual assembly are discussed deeply, on the base of the research ever been made, the parameter-oriented modeling and virtual assembly are developed. This main content of the thesis is as follows.(1) The method of the parameter-oriented solid modeling based on SolidWorks is studied. Two different methods on solid modeling are made comparison; one of them is chosen to implement the parameter-oriented solid modeling through modifying the model parameter. After choosing and proofreading the dimensional parameter of the parts, all the parameters are qualified to meet the given requirements. This part is programmed with Visual C++6.0, meanwhile, a great lot of the parameters used in the model designing are processed and the designed-parameters are written into the database through Access2003, a software of the management of the database.Using the computer to calculate the data used to be processed by hand makes the design calculation simple and feasible and the 3D parameter-oriented modeling come true,meanwhile, it simplifies the modeling process and improves the modeling efficiency.(2) Through analyzing the feature of the cutter rest parts, ascertaining the order of the characteristic establishment, summarizing the features in the form of the expression, we realize the description of the solid feature. According to the specific parts, we ascertain the specific geometric parameters and establish the 3D parametric template library of the common parts.(3) The analysis and research of methods, by which the virtual assambly, key technique and virtual assembly are realized, have been analyzed and studied. Through creating the digital product assembly model, the virtual assembly model is created oncomputer which is nearly like the practical product, to simulate and analyze the assemblyprocess and evaluate the assembly performance of the product, in order to find the potencial assembly conflicts and defects earlier, and the design staffs will response to these feedbacks. The practical samples can be taken over by the digital sample by carrying out this technique, which will not only benefit the development of the parallel engineering, but shorten the developing time significantly, cut the costs and improve the competation of the products on the market place. Thereby, the research of the virtual assembly technology will benefit a lot to the advanced manufacturing mode, such as the quick manufacturing and virtual manufacturing. The simple virtual assemblies of some parts have been finished and the visual assembly process design has been discussed in this article.The virtual assembly system and the cutter rest modeling have been developed by taking some parts of the machine cutter rest as rearch object on the platform of the Solidworks and Microsoft Visual C++6.0.
