The idea of modular design is: dividing modules firstly, and then re-designing certain modules to meet customer demand for personalized products. The modular design has been a crucial technology to solve the contradiction that is brought out by personalized demands and large-scale manufacture. Based on the in-depth study of modular design principles and methods, this paper established the overall integrated method of modular design, and brought forward different methods of dividing modules for different products. While, this paper merged the knowledge into the creation modules via UG/KF technology based on knowledge engineering. The major research contents and innovations of this paper are as follows:1. This paper proposed the mechanical products modular integrated design method by analyzing the current modular design methods. This method avoids the blindness of modular design by considering the market demands. And this method makes the modular design be significant and pertinent by using different methods for different products.2. This paper designed different modules dividing methods for different modular design methods, and researched fuzzy clustering algorithm, and created classification matrix for different modules dividing methods. This paper created mathematical model of products'modular division via VC calling MATLAB C++ function library, and then realized partition of current products via dividing components of marine diesel engine.3. This paper research related theory of knowledge engineering, and analyzed knowledge characteristic of mechanical design, and mentioned module building based knowledge fusion via researching knowledge fusion technology. And this paper created module design model of marine diesel engine, and realized parameter driving, and researched data processing technology based knowledge fusion, and developed UG/KF crankshaft module, connecting rod module, base module and assembling module using creating knowledge library via UG/KF technology.
