Along with the widespread application of spiral bevel gear in various devices of heavy duty gear transmission, many flows, such as more difficult of 3D modeling, problems of efficiency and correctness and so on, of traditional method of design spiral bevel gear by hand come out. Therefore, making full use of computer technolocy to aide design spiral bevel gear will be the development trends of designing spiral bevel gear.Based on the research of the calculation and checking of the contact strength and the tooth root strength of spiral bevel gear in the Gleason standard the Klingelnberg's standard, this article proposes a computer aided designing spiral bevel gear system with the technology of database, UG secondary development and weak artificial intelligence as core. The system uses the Microsoft's Visual C++ 6.0 as the development platform which combines the port of SQL Sever 2000 and the UG/Open API, and the modularized design as the development method.The system could do the whole process which is from inputting basic parameters to calculation of geometry information, to intelligently checking of the contact and tooth root strength, to building the 3D model. It not only bring down the intensity of designer greatly, but also efficiently increase the product's rated capacity, quality and standards of design. The system's output which is the model applies in UG and the geometry information applies in manufacture is highly effective in the subsequent gear emulation and processing. Meanwhile, the system has a series of functions, such as the management of materials database and cutter head database, the report printing, the help system and so on.The design system satisfies the need of experienced designer's quick design and it's highly effective to customer's work. Also, it has some theoretical significance and utility value to research and develop new aided designing bevel gear system.
