As an ideal way to dispose the used product, remanufacturing has a great meaning in terms of reducing the exploitation of original material, reducing the pollution and answering the change of the weather, which has been attached great importance to. For example, remanufacturing has been recommended to be a key technology for developing recycling economy in the recycling economy law enacted recently. Redesign for used part is one of the key technologies for remanufacturing. With the support of the National Key Technology R&D Program (NO.2006BAF02A20) and Chongqing Science Foundation (CQCSTC 2008BB3309), the attributes of incomplete information on the used part and redesign methods for the reuse of used parts based on incomplete information are studied.To begin with, an information perspective of used parts and the incomplete characteristic of used parts information have been proposed from the point of view of manufacturing informatics. It is pointed out that the process of use/maintain/scrap and recycle/remanufacturing of the part is also the process of parts information change/deletion/incomplete and reconstruction. The analysis and restore on incomplete information of used parts play an important part in optimizing the redesign process and improving the utilization ratio to used parts.Then, based on the analysis of the source and characteristics of incomplete information from the perspective of overall lifecycle of used part, the part's information structure model which contains noumenon property layer and subject attribute layer is presented, and the forming process of incomplete information for used parts is analyzed from those two layers. Based on that, the fourfold attributes for used parts'incomplete information are proposed which are imperfection, fuzziness, inheritance and openness, and expression model of incomplete information for used parts is established.And then, a redesign method for the reuse of used parts with incomplete information is proposed. The method is composed by the process of repairing used parts'incomplete information and the design process based on the axiomatic design theory. The methods of repairing used parts'incomplete information contain two parts: technologies of acquiring used parts'information and technologies of retrieving the initial design information. The redesign process model of used parts based on the axiomatic design theory is established and the conceptual redesign process for used parts is analyzed in details.Finally, the characteristics of incomplete information and the redesign method for used parts are applied in the process of remanufacturing worm-gear pair to validate the practicality and efficacy.
