The blade is the key component of centrifugal pump, and its design and manufacture quality affects pump's characteristics, such as hydraulic characteristics, suction performance and operation stability. The PCAD is used to design pump, but only two-dimensional drawings are generated. The two-dimensional drawings can not be directly used in computerized numerical control, finite element analysis and numerical simulation of internal flow. With the popularization of three-dimensional design concept and the development of CAD and CAM, the two-dimensional drawing can not meet the needs of design and manufacture of pump. A new kind of pump CAD software is needed to design and build solid model of blade in pumps. This will make great contribution in pump industry.Pro/Engineer, Visual C++6.0 and Pro/TOOLKIT were used to develop the software to design pump and build model of blade. The methods of combination three-dimensional blade with program control were used to develop the procedures. The study is a useful practice for research and application of pump CAD. It provided references and guidelines for developing pump CAD software integrating hydraulic design, three-dimensional modeling, computational fluid dynamics and performance prediction. The major work was as follows.1,The process of conventional pump blade design was revolutionized and arithmetized, based on the principle of centrifugal pump hydraulic design, the theory of one-dimensional and the methods of mathematical analysis. Langrange interpolation techniques were used in the program. The data structure and programming design method were unified in the software. Modularization design was used to develop the software.2,The "DLL" mode was used to compile the main codes of the Pro/TOOLKIT applications, related functions and complete the main codes of the procedure.3,The MFC was used to design the dialog. Wizard-type Dialog and Modeless Dialog were used to design the interactive interface to input and transmit data.4,The pressure side and suction side were built by imitation of the three streamlines, and then the three-dimensional blade model was created. 5,An impeller was designed using the procedure. In order to test the accuracy and reliability of the procedures, internal flow field was simulated based on Fluent.
