With the development of China market, China has become the No.1 auto products production country. It provides a good opportunity and challenge for Project management application on vehicle Research &Development project. The critical factor for vehicle development project success is timing, meet project schedule and deliver good quality vehicle product is key issue.This paper investigated the identification of time management involved in A1 new vehicle project carried by local auto companies. After analyze the affected factors and background of the project, find the key problem is conflict between market needs for new vehicle product and schedule delay of project implementation.Firstly, research the project management application on vehicle development project and vehicle project investigation trend currently. With the project management application study, auto company pay more a lot of attention on project management to make the whole process is under control.With the project management application on Auto Company, it can stratify the market need and customer requirement, information knowledge accumulation and technical ability built-up, take reference and innovation. After further research to advance project management globally and past project experience analysis, some particular project management method and theory have been used to local company, such as project platform, minimum cell, Key issue driven .By analyze global project management present situation, it become globally, professionally, integration.With new product invest risk assessment; feasibility report should consider many factors, such as local law and regulations, local policy development, invest, profit, risk. Risk assessment of vehicle is divided into four stages, including preliminary feasibility research, concept feasibility research, technical feasibility research and final report.XC auto company take project driven organization, a vice manager of development department was assigned to A1 project manager and more department get involved the project including Car body, Powertrain, Chassis, Electrical, Internal and external trim, Prototype car and Testing as a project team. For A1 project specific situation, analyze team member department, age, work experience distribution which to find advantage and development needs and provide related solution by create an effective workflow.Per project management knowledge areas: Integration management, Scope management, Time management, Cost management, Quality management, Human resource management, Communication management, Risk management, Procurement management. Take PDM method of time management, it is a method of constructing a project schedule network diagram that uses boxes or rectangle, referred to as nodes, to represent activities and connect them with arrows that show the dependencies. This technique is also called activity-on-node (AON), and is the method used by most project management software packages. Finish to start logic was integrated into PLM (Product Life Management) system of XC Auto Company that was used to control the whole progress including plan, workload plot and arrangement, schedule control. It also gives an introduction to tools and software which used to schedule control of A1 project.A1 project is nearly completed till the beginning of 2010, PLM result show that A1 project schedule meet original set by PDM method application. A management model was built based on PDM method and to identify time management influence for vehicle project. The result shows that PDM method is a good method that can meet project schedule by A1 project practice.
