Gansu Yellow Chicken was used to cross reeding with Jingxing Yellow Chicken male breeder and new Lohman male breeder. Meat production traits and the activity of alkine phosphatase(ALP) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT) in plasma at 8 weeks of age in three strains (Gansu Yellow Chicken, Jingxing Yellow Chicken, Jingxing Yellow Chicken XGansu Yellow Chicken) were determined. Laying performance and the activity of ALP, GPT at 16 and 43. weeks of age in three strains (Gansu Yellow Chicken, New Lohman, New Lohman X Gansu Yellow Chicken) were determined. The results of meat test showed that the heterozygote vigor of growth rate and food conversion rate was significantly greater in Fl, the breast square was improved compared with Gansu Yellow Chicken, however the muscle quality was not satisfied. The result of laying performance test showed that egg number at 300 days of age in New Lohman XGansu Yellow Chicken was larger than Gansu Yellow Chicken but the heterozygote vigor was not significant, the defect of previous layer weight of first laying and the later age of first laying Gansu Yellow Chicken were also improved at the same time. Through the determination of activity of ALP, GPT and production traits we could draw the conclusion that the activity of ALP and GPT in plasma which can be used as a marker to improve the growth rate in Gansu Yellow Chicken , But the results were variable in other strains. The egg production at 300 days of age in Gansu yellow Chicken also can be selected by using the activity of ALP as marker. We can even predict the egg performance at 300 days of age by using the activity of ALP at 16 weeks of age in earlier period. We failed to find the activity of GPT and alp have the same function of .The results of semen evaluation showed that we can judge the reproductive traits of the male breed through this evaluation. Electrophoresis experiment showed that no diversity of the seminal plasma protein in 12 males of 3 strains and no relationship between the seminal plasma protein and the sperm fertility rate have been found. Ultrastructure of breast muscle, leg muscle were studied and sarcomere length and myofibril diameter were also measured. The results showed that the basic cha.ractristics of muscle fiber ultrastructure are alike and normal. Sarcomere length and myofibril diameter have great variation among different strains and have the potential of using as markers to evaluate the muscle quality, but further study was needed.
