Crop germplasm resources protection is an important pan of the Convention onBiological Diversity. All countries around world are conscious of the importance ofusing Information Technologies (IT) to protect crop germplasm resources. In China,great effort has been made to collect crop germplasm resources and to consmictdatabase systems. The Chinese Crop Germplasm Resources Information System(CGRIS ) has been set up. Users can visit the web site (httP://icgrcaas.net.cn) andshare Information via Internet.With the raPid development of Information technologies (IT), it is very easy toconstruct web-based infOrmation systems. ComPonellt tedrilogy helps theprogranuner to accelerate the progression, to shorten the develoPment cycle and tostandardize the system. The integration of Intemat and GeograPhical InformationSystem (GIS) make it possible to constrUct an Intemet-based GIS.In order to improve the service level of crop germplasm resources informationand also to promote the crop germplasm resources dat8 evalu8tion and utiliz8tion, weconstruct the Crop Germplasm Resources Data Evaluaion System (CGRDES) byusing Information Technologies (IT) including database tecImology, netWorkingtechnology, software component tecIinology and GIS technology. Now CGRDESprovides several fimctions, such as one-dimension classification, tWo-dimensionclassification, basic statistical analysis, fuzZy query and complicated evaluation,distribution query and thematic map generation.Practicality and versatility are the basic principles, which should be consideredduring process of system development. Users can use this system to evaluate notonly crop germplasm resources data but data from other fields. In this research, weconstruct a WebGIS of Crop Germplasm Resources based on Componellt ObjectModel (COM) firstly. This WebGIS presents a new technique for distribution queryvisualization and spatial analysis.
