Applying Solatium torvum, S.surattense, S.sisybriiflium, S.integrifolium, S.sisymbrifolium, S.manunosum as root stocks , S.melongena as a scion, effects of various root stocks on biological characteristics, physiological and biochemical characteristics and resistance to verticillium wilt of eggplants were studied. Through investigating of field, testing of physiological and biochemical characteristics, analyzing of fruit quality, vaccinal determination and testing of physiological indexes of resistance to verticillium wilt ,the results were as follows:(l)There was high affinity between six rootstocks and scion, all the survival rates of grafted eggplants were above 86%.(2)Grafted eggplants were better in plant height, shoot diameter, leaves number, spreading, root FW and shoot FW. Moreover, mostly grafted eggplant's indexs were significantly higher than contrast.(3) Harvest phase of grafted eggplants was longer than that of contrast. First harvest period was advanced by 5-8 days. Final harvest period was prolonged by 39-44 days.(4)There were not obviously bad effects of various root stocks on internal quality of eggplants. External quality of grafted eggplants was better than that of contrast.Taste and flavor were the same as.(5)Yields were increased after graft, and the sequence was S.sisybriiflium>S.surattense S. integrifolium>S. torvum>S. sisymbrifolium>S. manunosum>contrast.Mediiim-terminal yields were higher than that of contrast, but early yields were litter lower than that of contrast.(6)There were physiological and biochemical changings after graft. The diurnal average values of photosynthetic rate, intercelluar CO2 concentration, transpiratoryintensity and stomatal conductance in the grafted eggplants were significantly higher than that of contrast, but the diurnal changing patterns were the same as; Both the light compensation point and the CO2 compensation point were decreased with both the light saturation point and the CO2 saturation point increasing on the grafted eggplants; Root activities of grafted eggplants were significantly increasing; Isoenzyme spectrum of POD in grafted eggplants was changing. Isoenzyme spectrum changing of root was more obvious than that of leave.(7)Disease-resistance was increased after graft, and the sequence was S.torvwri>S.sis-ymbrifolium>S.sisybriiflium>S.integrifolium>S.surattense >S.manunosum> contrast. There was a negative trend between electric conductivity percentage, soluble sugar relative leakage percentage, content of MDA and disease-resistance; There was a positive trend between activities of CAT , POD, PPO and disease-resistance.To sum up, S.sisybriiflium was the best root stock of S.melongena.To compare with contrast, the total yield was increased by 51.9%,and prevention eftlctiveness was 50.1%.
