Medlar (Lyciian barbarian L.) ranks the first of the five sorts of treasures or the local famous special products in Ningxia. It has peculiar effects on nourishing liver, kidney, making one's eyes bright and enhanced male genitals. Up-to-date studies have shown its effects on anti-cancer and resisting caducity. Medlar has been well known due to its high quality. However, to most people, they only knew that quality of medlar was the best but they didn't know why. Everyone takes care of what environmental factors cause its high quality. So we designed many experiments and managed to solve those question.Based on the data of medlar sampling, soil nutrient, daily weather in northern China where produced medlar, and data of field experiments in Luhuatai Horticultural Farm of Yinchuan City from 2000 to 2001, we analyzed the relationship between polysaccharides , saccharides , protein (amino acid), ashes of medlar, commerce quality and environmental factor such as weather condition and soil nutrient using the statistical , clustering and hiberarchy methods, respectively. The results showed that:A. Cv value of each medlar factor varied from 7 percent to 167 percent. Besides, related to weather condition and soil nutrient, variety of medlar mainly determined its quality. Generally speaking, both weather condition and soil nutrient determined its quality together.B. Net photosynthesis rate of medlar (NPR) and leaf temperature has a parabola relationship. NPR increased as leaf temperature raising. On the contrary, when leaf temperature was over 27.3 , NPR began to drop. Those facts showed that 27.3 was a feasible temperature to medlar growth..C. Ratio of rotten seeds (R,) were greatly determined by weather condition, weight per 100 seeds (Wh) was in second place. But length per 100 seeds (Lh)> diameter per 100 seeds (Dh) were rarelydetermined by weather factors. The chief weather factor affecting commercial quality was mean air humidity during fruit forming , mean air temperature and rainfall. To developed big seeds, the temperature was 18 . In addition, large amount rainfall and high humidity were the major reasons leading to RT increasing.D. Soil available P during fruits forming, accumulated temperature during the total development period and mean air humidity during flowering stage to maturing affect on polysaccharides content of medlar (CPo ) . Both CPo and mean air humidity formed an exponential relationship.E. Saccharide content of medlar (SCM) is closely related to the maximum air temperature, the minimum air temperature, sunshine duration and rainfall during fruit forming , as well as accumulated temperature during total development period.F. Besides variety, soil available N affect on synthesize protein and amino acid of medlar, They formed a logarithm relationship.G. Both ashes content of medlar ( CMA ) and mean air humidity during flowering stage to maturing formed a clearly exponential relationship, and both CMA and rainfall during fruits forming formed an obviously logarithm relationship, and CMA and total K in soil formed an exponential relationship.H. The generally evaluating results of quality of medlar indicated that seeds sampled in summer were better than that in autumn, and the seeds quality is quite different in different region.I. We came to conclusion that variety was the chief factor affecting on quality of medlar, and environmental factors were in the next place. There, precipitation days, mean air humidity and mean diurnal range of air temperature were the main weather factors. On the other side, available P, available N and total K in soil were the main soil factors for high-quality medlar development.
