DFCCS-Ⅱ dual-flow continuous culture system is the 1st set of DFCCS designed by Chinese experts, which has 12 fermenters, and is used to stimulate ruminal fermentation. This paper evaluates its performance from the point of bacteria fermentation, in order to provide parameters for further research on ruminal physiology, ruminal microbes and feed degradation etc.2 experiments were conducted as follows:Exp 1.Comparison of bacteria fermentation in vitro with different dilution rates and in vivo An 150kg-weight Inner Mongolian Cow with permanent ruminal cannula was used as control group. Based on its liquid dilution rate (LDR) (11.84%), different levels (5.92%,11.84%and 17.76% as 1.5,1.0 and 0.5 times of LDR,respectively) were applied as LDRs in DFCCS-Ⅱ, in order to evaluate the performance of this system and determine its steady –state . The result shows that DFCCS-Ⅱis a model, which can be used to research ruminal fermentation. With 5.92% and 11.84% LDR, its steady –state was achieved in 4-11d. When dilution rate is 17.76%, its steady –state is shortened sharply to 2 days Exp 2.Bacteria fermentation of different diets in DFCCS-Ⅱ.2 diets were designed, with the ratios of concentrate to roughage 4:6 and 2:8, respectively, to compare bacteria fermentation in fermenters in DFCCS-Ⅱ, and to further verify its stability. The result shows that the bacteria fermentation in fermenters is consistent with that of in vivo, which suggests that DFCCS-Ⅱ is both reliable and stable.
