Database is a basis of information system which is an effective approach of making use of much information. This paper mainly researches Soil Resource Database and Information System of Jiangsu Province based on Geographic Information System and database technology and their development technology. The paper adopts a following construction flow: Geographic Information System is integrated into utilization and management of soil resources, and constructs information system of corresponding soil resources, which provides an effective tool for investigating, analyzing, restoring and managing soil resources.Jiangsu Province Soil Resource Information consists of Soil Spatial Database, Soil Attribute Database and information development. 1:500000 Soil Spatial Database of Jiangsu Province is structured by the technique of ArcGIS8.1 and Soil Attribute Database by Microsoft Access 2000. On the basis, by integrating the program of Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 into Geographic Information System and MapObject, integration and development of two databases are researched, at the same time Soil Information System of Jiangsu Province is constructed successfully. The system has many functions such as importing data, editing, displaying, SQL, spatial analysis, thematic map constituting and exporting of outcome and reports; has high speed and good compatible property, interface, functions and maintenance. In virtue of the characteristics, it is a very effective tool.Constructing of Spatial Database mainly collects and edits data of images and establishes GeoDatabase of different point, line and polygon feature. The paper mainly depends on 1:5 million soil map and administrative area map, digitizes, collects Soil Attribution map polygon by ArcGIS801 Desktop and constructs a sketch, and further checks up, corrects topology editing and layers joint. In the course of exploring questions and strategies of digitizing and editing the soil map, the paper mainly focuses on providing a solution of controlling spatial digital quality.Soil Attribute Database is constructed based on documents of soil investigation. Jiangsu Province Soil consists of 15 soil group, 34 subgroup, 97 soil genus and 212 soil species, which is rearranged and coded according to soil taxonomy system. By Microsoft Access 2000, Soil Attribute System of Jiangsu Province re-consists of 97 soil genus and 212 soil species, whose natural attribute database includes soil particle composition, organic matter, PH, total Nitrogen, total Phosphor, active phosphor, total Potassium, active Potassium, CEC and so on, which provides important data for constructing Information System of Jiangsu Province, on the other hand, develops a complete SQL system of data of Jiangsu soil information for meeting the need of consumer.Incorporation database and redeveloping of information system is now in the forefront of development research of information system. The paper depends on Windows 2000, integrates MapObjects2.1 of GIS component into Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 to incorporate Spatial Database and Attribute Database with development of The Soil Resources Information System of Jiangsu Province.
