As one of three major irrigation areas in Guangdong Province, Gao-zhou irrigation district has made an outstanding contribution to Guangdong Province in recent 40 years. But some problems have emerged such as behindhand management, shortage of water supply and water resources waste and so on. The study on the optimal water resources allocation of Gao-zhou reservoir irrigation district has the vital significance in enhancing utilization efficiency of water resources and guarantee irrigation district social economy sustainable development.Based on characteristics of the water resources supply and demand in Gao-zhou reservoir irrigation district in Guangdong Province, the forecast of supply and demand of water and soil resources is analyzed in this article. The main contents and conclusion are as follows:(1) The theories and methods of optimal water resources allocation are systematically analyzed, especially the model structure, modeling methods, characteristics and applying conditions.(2) According to runoff data over the years, the income of reservoir and area are worked out .Based on the forecast of the demand of industry, agriculture, life and ecology, surplus and deficiency water quantity of the irrigation district can be acquired.(3) According to characteristics of water supply of the irrigation district, distribution of the areas using water and the characteristics of departments, the large system model of water resources allocation of Gao-zhou reservoir irrigation district (LP-LP-DP-SDP) is established and is solved with the decomposition-coordination method.(4) During the modeling process, converting social benefit obtained from water using quantity of ecology environment to the economic benefit with the economic theory, solving the water allocation problem of irrigation district as the goal of economical benefit and considering the stochastic rainfall influence to irrigation in every stage of single crop.(5) By the model applying, results indicate, in the especial drought year, the using water order is life, industry, ecology and irrigation. That conforms to the fact and educe that the model is reasonable and can be as the basis of the optimal water resources allocation of irrigation district.
