The research was conducted in Shandong Agricultural University and Shandong Province Development Planning Commission from 2003 to 2004. It focused on the study of forage corn and its industrialization, and included three respectives: (1) we analyzed forage corn industrializing at present, characterized main forage corn varieties and discussed the advantages and the problems of forage corn industrialization. (2) we studied key planting techniques for the major forage corn varieties now and analyzed the influence of management on the yield and forage nutritive value. (3) we primarily studied the construction and modes of forage corn industrialization system, ibrought forward two cognitions, three problems, five strategies and three proposes and figured out two modes, basing on actual conditions of Shandong. We integrated investigation with experiments, and had obtained the results as follows in the past two years:1. Analysis of forage corn industrialization and characterization of forage corn varietiesForage corn industrialization is one of the parts for adjust of structure of agriculture and stockbreeding, which could increase peasants' income and agricultural benefit. The advantages of forage corn for industrialization are that: (1) it can make full use of sunlight, energy and water, produce heavily, is abundant in nutrition and its efficiency of transforming into meal, egg and milk is high. (2) The management was simple, cost was low and benefit was great. (3) It was prone to manage in scale and produce mechanized. The characterization of forage corn varieties was that: (1) high yield ofstern and leaves, abundance with solubility carbohydrate, long period of nutrition growth, high efficiency of photosynthesis, high protein content, low lignin content, low fiber content, and high tolerance to high density of plants.(2) good taste, and its nutritive material was easy to be digested and absorbed.(3) As stuff for a whole year by silage, it resolved the problem of stuff shortage in winter.2. Study on key planting techniques of main varieties at presentResearch showed that 45000 plants per hm2 is appropriate, at that density of plants, we could obtain higher yield and higher forage nutritive value. We compared the results about silage experiments reported before, and made sure that initial stage of dough is more rational for harvesting. As for Zea mexicana, which is able to regrow rapidly after cutting, we could realize higher yield and greater nutritive value when we keep the height after cutting 30 cm, as for those that are unable to regrow after cutting, we could obtain higher nutritive value, but lower yield when we kept higher stubble after cutting, we believed that the more rational height of stubble after cleaving was 20 cm to 30 cm.3. Pilot study on construction and mode of forage corn industrialization systemThere were two cognitions about construction of modes of forage corn industrialization system in Shandong, even in China. (1) Changing our traditional concept as soon as possible, recognizing well of forage corn industrialization was need for adjust of agriculture and stockbreeding structure, for realization of peasants' income- increase, and for combination of economy, society and ecology. (2) As high yield and high quality resource of stuff, forage com have advantages over others. There were three prominent problems of forage com industrialization currently as flows: (1) an integrated and scientific evaluating system was still lack, and there was no uniform criterion for evaluation of forage com; (2) effectiveness of forage com breeding was low; (3) a set of perfect technology for good seeds and good planting haven't come out, and production pattern was single and the capability to meet an emergency of market was still weak.We had given five solution methods, which associated with pre-production, mid-production and pro-production according to the situation and problems of forage com industrialization: (1) good plan must be drew up and organization and induction must be strengthen designed in pre-production; (2) good models should be established and its guiding function should fully embody; (3) development of the leading enterprises and mechanism innovation should be implored and exploitation of industrialization should be actualized energetically; (4) the full service was necessary and content of science and technology should increase; (5) strengthen the guidance of policy and do support of the government well.
