Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit. is a kind of alleviate pain, anticancer, antimedicine and improve intellect having good prospect of exploitation. Alkaloids play an importmant role in medical activities of Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit. So the key is Alkaloids cumulation ,cell suspension is a promising choice . In the paper ,we summarize and discuss on the chemical components and medicinal antivities of Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit. in recently years. At the sme time ,we have a further discuss about explotition and have a new idea about further promising development .Based on callus of Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit. the influences of light n hormones and nutritional factors on the growth n physiological biochemical characters and alkaloids formation of suspension culture of Pinellia ternata ( Thunb.) Breit.were systematically studied, cell growth speed was obviously improved, it would give references for cell large scale culture and alkaloids production.1. Effects of hormonesPinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit. young petiole is used as explant. If explant is cultured in medium MS supplement with only NAA or 2,4-D or KT or 6-BA or with 2 or 3 kinds at the same time ,callus is all induced, but MS+ KT1.5 mg/L +2, 4-D 2. 0 mg/L is better for callus Induction . MS+ 6-BA0.5mg/L+2, 4-D1. 0 mg/L is optimum medium for callus proliferation. MS+6-BA1.0mg/L +ZT0.1mg/L +NAA0.2mg/L is better for buds induction and multiplicatio, 1/2MS+KT0.5 mg/L +NAA1.0 mg/L is better for rootage.2. Study of physiological and biochemical charactersWith the young leaves of Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit callus were induced and screened, then established the suspension cultures. The results showed that:when Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit. was cultured in the light and in the dark, light was better for cell growth, the harvest time was 24th. both of their cell growthcurves were like "S"; The pH of cultured mediums were increased at first ,then decreased gradually; Soluble protein contents , peroxides and SOD activities of cultured cell had two peaks , but they were on the different days; MDA content were increased at first ,then decreased gradually, later increased. The light was better than dark for cell growth and there were a plus relativity between protein and pod activities; MDA content had a reverse relationship with cell growth . 3. Effects of nutritional factors on cell growth and total alkaloids formation in cell suspension culturesStudies on the effect of nutritional factors on the cell growth and alkaloids formation in suspension culture of Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit .was carried out. The results showed that glucose was better than sucrose for cell growth and alkaloids synthesis and the optimum concentration was 2%. Although inositol had little effect on the cell growth , 100mg/L inositol was best for alkaloids synthesis . Calcium and Fe had marked effects on the cell growth and alkaloids production and the optimum concentrations were 1.8 mmol/Land 0.06mmol/L respectively .Finally, the conditions in plant cell engineering and secondary metabolites production culmulation of some medicine plants were analyzed ; research and development problems and resolutions were discussed; prospects of future researches were also given.
