Pinellia ternata, a Chinese plant, is of great value as medicine, which has been used by herbalists for more than thousands of years. The morden pharmaceutical researches show that P. ternata have the function of the anti-tumor, anti-arrhythmia, and so on. In recent years, there is a high requirement for it. Owing to the overuse and unaimed introduction of P. ternate, P. ternata, the wild plant resourses is running off and some even is on the verge of annihilation. This investigation is of great meanings for the quality , identification , introduction and standardization planting of P. ternata .Ten different populations of P. ternata, were collected to be introduced to farmland experimental field. The experiments were made in order to get science data of quality, identification and standard on this plants, the our measure conclusions as follows:1. Morphology descriptionOn the basis of extensive field observation, the morphological characters of each population of the P. ternata were described. The varied reproducing methods of the plants in the genus, and the differences in morphological characteristics were revealed among plants at the mature and reoprductive stage.2. CytologyX=13 is the only basic chromosome number of P. ternate. according to my study, while the previous reported x=14 or x=9 ect. as the basic chromosome numbers of P. ternata may have been caused either by wrong specimen identification or by miscounting of the chromosome numbers. Most of the species have polyploidy populations, and efficient vegetative reproduction may be the most important reason to the high polyploid level in P. ternata..3. Study on AFLP FingerprintingThe ten populations were confirmed by amplified restriction fragment polymorphism(AFLP) markers with 11combined primers (E4/M3, E4/M5, E4/M6, E5/M3,...
