Oriental Lily (Lilium 'Oriental Hybrids') is a famous cut flower in the world. Being short history for commercial cultivation of cut flower and bulb production in China, the physilogical researches about breaking dormancy of Lily bulbs and techniques of cold treatment for long term storage of various bulbs are limited. This dissertation was performed to investigate the main methods of bulb harvest and cold storage on Oriental Lily (cv. 'Sorbonne' and 'Siberia'). Effects of low temperature on bulb dormancy and the physiological changes within getting out of dormancy were analyzed, including the levels of spouting rate, contents of starch and soluble carbohydrates. Concerned about the practice for recent years, the techniques for cold storage were also discussed. The main results are as follows:1. The main important approaches for bulb post-harvest must be done such as cleaning, classification, packing and cold-temperature treatment before Lily bulbs storage.2. Packing media and disinfecting methods play an important role in Lily bulbs long term stored at low temperature. Peat and sawdust are suitable media for bulb packing. Hot steam was approved as an effective method for disinfecting which was better than chemical sterilizing.3. For fresh keeping of Lily bulbs, 40~60% was proved as the suitable relative water content in packing media, while 50% was the best in peat media.4. Base on the observation of shoot development in bulbs, it was cleared that the inner sprouts were elongating continuously during the low temperature storage. It was indicted that the inner sprouts are less than 1cm reached to the top of the bulb, or 2/3 long for the whole bulb height were as the index of...
