Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the main vegetables in the world. The application of grafting is extensive in vegetable cultivation. This experiment with the fig leaf gourd as rootstock and JinYu-1, JinChun-4, JinChun-5 as the cion, studied the effect of grafting on growth and fruit quality of cucumber. And the experiment were composed with three parts, one is the change of physiology and biochemistry after grafted, one is effect of grafting on salinity response of cucumber, the other is effect of grafting on growth and quality of cucumber.1. This experiment studied the growth of grafted (root: the fig leaf gourd, scion: JinYu-1) and self-root seedlings, and the change trend of sever matter of grafted, self-root and wounded seedlings. The change trend of POD activity, Pro and MDA content of grafted and wounded seedlings rised in the first, declined in the follow and changed gently finally. The change trend of SOD was contrary. The change of hereinbefore substance appeared peak value after 7-9 days treatments. The POD activity, Pro and MDA content of stem were higher than that of leaf, and the SOD activity is contrary. The dry weight of shoot and root, fresh weight of shoot and root, stem diameter, the longest side root length remarkably increased after treatment. The dry weight of shoot and root, fresh weight of shoot and root, stem diameter, root/shoot rate and the longest side root length of grafted seedlings were significant higher that of self-root seedlings. The Pn, Ci and CHL content of grafted seedlings were significant higher that of self-root seedlings, but the Tr and Gs were contrary. The nutrition of N, P, K and Mg content of grafted seedlings were significant higher that of self-root seedlings, but the Ca content was contrary.2. This experiment studied the growth and physiological characteristic of cucumber grafted (root: the fig leaf gourd, scion: JinYu-1, JinChun-5) and self-root seedlings under NaCl stress (NaCl concentration: 0, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%). The dry weight of shoot and root, fresh weight of shoot and root, plant water content of cucumber grafted and self-seedling showed decline significantly with the NaCl concentration increase, but the root/shoot rate was contrary. The Pn, Ci and CHL content of cucumber grafted and self-seedling showed decline significantly with the NaCl concentration increase, but the Gs was contrary. The Pn and Gs of grafted seedlings were significant higher than self-root seedling, but the Ci was contrary. The SOD activity and root vitality of grafted and self-root seedlings tended to decline significantly, but the relatively conductance, POD activity, Pro content, MDA content of grafted and self-root seedlings tended toincrease significantly with NaCl concentration increase. Under the same NaCl concentration stress, the SOD activity, POD activity, root vitality and Pro content of grafted seedlings were higher than those of self-root seedlings. The relatively conductance and MDA content had the contrary result. These showed grafting weakened the disadvantageous effect of NaCl stress on growth of cucumber seedlings. The Na content of grafted and self-root seedlings tended to increase significantly, but the K, Ca, Mg and K/Na rate of grafted and self-root seedlings tended to decline significantly with NaCl concentration increase. Under the same NaCl concentration stress, the Na content of grafted seedlings was significant lower than self-root seedlings, and graft enhanced K content, reduced Na content, increase the rate of K and Na.3. This experiment studied the growth and development of cucumber grafted (root: the fig leaf gourd, scion: JinYu-1, JinChun-4) and self-root plant and fruit quality of cucumber. Graft showed significant increase the plant height, stem diameter, fruit number pre plant and fruit set rate of cucumber, but had no with burl length, the burl of first female flower and fruit, marketable fruit number and marketable fruit rate obvious influence. Graft advance the date of the first female flower blooms and the first fruit harvest. The change of Pn and Tr tended to rise in the first and fall down then in one day. The change of Ci and Gs is contrary. The soluble protein content of fruit in different harvest periods had no significant different. The soluble sugar content of fruit in prophase was significant lower fruit in metaphase and anaphase, and the dissociative amino acids content was contrary. The soluble protein content of grafted cucumber was significant lower self-root cucumber, but grafting had no obvious effects on content of vitamin C, soluble sugar, dissociative amino acids and nutrition. There were 46.3% customers deemed the grafted cucumber and self-root cucumber had different in taste and crispness, but 15.6% customers deemed had no different.
