Objective: To study the effect of compound codonopsis on lipid metabolism, production performance and egg quality in laying hens. Methods: The trial is divided into trial one and trial two. Trial 1: 180 Hyline White laying hens, aged 24 weeks, were allotted to 6 groups randomly, 30 for each group (group 1 is codonpsis, group 2 is astragali, group 3 is eplmedlum, group 4 is isatidis, group 5 is codonpsis decoction, group 6 is blank). The Chinese medicines were increased the comparison to 1%. The experiment lasted for three weeks. The content of TC, TG, LDL and HDL in serum and tissues were determined. The content of TC, TP and Ca in egg were determined. Data of production performance were recorded. Trial 2: To consult data of trial 1, five Compound codonopsis were made (Compound Codonopsis 1~5). 180 Hyline White laying hens, aged 24 weeks, were allotted to 6 groups randomly, 30 for each group (group 1~5 is Compound codonopsis 1~5, group 6 is blank). Group 1~5 were as the experimental group which were fed the diets containing 1% of the Compound Codonopsis 1~5. The experiment lasted for three weeks. The content of TC, TG, LDL and HDL in serum and tissues were determined. The content of TC, TP and Ca in egg were determined. Data of production performance were recorded. Results: Trial 1: The lipid metabolism and egg quality were improved in all experimental groups. The RC groups were better than other groups. The TC, TG and LDL in serum in respectively group were markedly lower than that in control group, reduced 38.7%, 78.3% and 50.7%. The HDL in serum in RC groups was markedly higher than that in control group, increased 20.6%. The TC and TG in liver in RC group were markedly lower than that in control group, reduced 30.6% and 34.0%. The TC in egg in RC groups was markedly lower than that in control group, reduced 14.0%. The TP and Ca in egg in RC groups were markedly higher than that in control group, increased 19.7% and 20.0% (P<0.05). The rate of lay eggs and reward of feed in experimental groups were improved. Trial 1: The TC in serum in group 4 and group 5 were markedly lower than that in control group, reduced 42.3% and 48% (P<0.01). The TG in serum in group 4 and group 5 were markedly lower than that in control group, reduced 87% and 89% (P<0.01). The LDL in serum in group 4 and group 5 were...
