Effects of adding different levels of alfalfa meal to diet of carp on the performance, qulity of fish body;digestive enzymes and biochemical index in serum were studied in two experiments and the mechanism were also initially discussed.Experiment one:An experiment was conducted using 750 Cyrinus Carpio to study the effect of alfalfa meal on production performance and qulity of fish body.Carps were randomly divided into five treatments according to a random factorial arrangement.Carps were fed with diets containing 0, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% alfalfa meal during the period of 39 days. The results showed that:(l)Carps fed with 5% alfalfa meal were superior in average individual daily weight gain, weight gain rate, relative growth rate to that of no meal treatment.Although the two groups had no significant difference (P>0.05).It also showed that 5% alfalfa meal in diet had an active effect on production performance.Carps fed with 10% alfalfa meal were inferior to that of no meal treatment, but the two groups had no significant difference either(P>0.05).The average individual daily weight gain, weight gain rate, relative growth rate and feed conversion rate of carps fed with 15% and 20% alfalfa meal were significantly decreased(P<0.05). (2)Crude protein content of muscle was significantly improved exercept groupe 4 and EE was significantly decreased when amount of alfalfa meal was increased(P<0.05).It showed that alfalfa meal could improve the qulity offish body of carps.(3) Economic profit of carps fed with diets containing 5% alfalfa meal was best. The research showed that it improved the production performance, qulity of fish body of carps when adding alfalfa meal to diet of carps, and the effect was significant when the additive amount reached 5%. So it was recommended that 5% of alfalfa meal in diet was suitable for carps.Experiment two:An experiment was conducted using 1440 carps to study the effect of alfalfa meal on production performance, qulity of meat, the activity of digestive enzymes and the serum indexes.Carps were randomly divided into six treatments according to a random factorial arrangement, each treatment represented by three replicates of 80 carps each .Carps were fed with diet containing 0, 4%, 8%, 12%,16% alfalfa meal and fresh alfalfa during the period of 50 days. The results showed that :(l)Fresh alfalfa was not apt to feeding directly to carps.(2) Average individual daily weight gain of carps fed with 8% alfalfa meal were extremely significantly enhanced (P <0.01)while weight gain rate, relative growth rate of carps were significantly enhanced (P <0.05).The others had no significant difference compared to the control group(P >0.05).(3) Crude protein content of muscle was significantly improved and EE and cholesterol was significantly decreased...
