It's the first time to research the karyotype and G- ,C-banded patterns of Tetraogallus that have been analyzed by the methods of preparing chromosomes from the peripheral blood lymphocyte and the banding techniques .Succeeding in sliding and banding shows the methods of refined peripheral blood lymphocyte culture-drying naturally and the banding techniques of GTG , BSG are effective for Tetraogallus cytogentic study. The results showed the diploid chromosomal number of Tetraogallus is 2n=78, and the basic number of chromosome arms is AF=85. These chromosomes consist of 10 pairs of macrochromosomes and 29 pairs of microchromosomes ,and the sex chromosome type is ZZ(♂)/ZW(♀)..According to the measured relative lengths ,arms ratio and centromeric index ,the first 10 pairs of chromosomes are described as follows, No.1,2,5 and Z chromosomes are metacentrics, the other are telocentrics, the ideogram of routine karyotype was also been made. The characteristics of G-banding in Tetraogallus metaphase configuration are described in details, in the G-band model map, the first 10 pairs of chromosomes and Z, W are divided into 32 zones and 143 bands. Being treated by C-banding technique, a totally dark-stained, firstly appears and easily indentified W-chromosome always shows up in the female metaphase configuration, but down't show up in the male. It proves furtherly that C-banding technique is an effitive approach in avian sex indentification.
