Fatsia japonica, Nandina domestica, Laurus nobilisl, Hhypericum Chinense were cultivated under four different light regimes(fully open site,58%,24% and 6% daylight).Their leaf area, leaf mass per unit area(LMA), the gas exchange parameters , chlorophyll content, the RPP were measured. Several quantitative and qualitative indexes of shade-resistance of four ground covers were studied in this thesis. The main result and conclusions as follows:1 .The leaf area of four plants increase gradually along as the light regimes decreases, and Fatsia japonica, Laurus nobilisl increase more observably than the others, but the biggest incremental number of leaf area of four ground covers was under 6% daylight, under open site was the lowermost.2.The leaf mass per unit area (LMA) decrease gradually with the light regimes bringing down. The leaf of Fatsia japonica changes obviously, the other three species change obviously neither under 24%daylight or 6%daylight, but under 58%daylight dose.So the tend that accumulations of dry-material inside the plants is: Hhypericum Chinense,Nandina domestica, Laurus nobilisl, Fatsia japonica.3.With the light regimes decrease, Chlb increase but Chla and Chla/Chlb induce. The four species of ornamental ground covers were divided into three grades by the number of Chla/Chlb, i.e: Fatsia japonica, Nandina domestica, Laurus nobilisl, Hhypericum Chinense ,but Hhypericum Chinense has a extending adapting ability.4.Both of the photosynthetic light saturation point and the light compensation point induce with the light regimes increase ,and the graph highest — point move to the left, angle increase , the NET rose sharply within the low light regimes reduces.5.The increasing times of the RPP of four Species ground cover plants under the height temperatute:Hhypericum Chinense(1.235), Nandina domestica(1. 667),Laurusnobilisl(2.759),Fatsia japonica(3.620).Through the above analysis , can properly reflect , and they can be used as standards to evaluate the ability of tolerance to shade.
