The ground cover plants relying mainly on perennial root flowers was employed more andmore extensively in urban landscape, abundant the landscape gardens, but restricted by climatein the region of the North, the variety employed shows deficient. For enriching Harbin's gardenplant material, we trans-regional to go to Shenyang lead six variety into Harbin and carry onresearch to them, in the hope of to choose new variety that suitable to Harbin, popularize andapply.The research object of this thesis was introduced from Shenyang landscape ScientificResearch Institution in the year's of 2005, that was Hosta undulate, Hosta plantaginea, Hostaplantaginea 'Rosea', Phlox paniculata 'Aida', Phlox paniculata 'Purpurea' and Phloxpaniculata 'Rosea'. The six variety was Shenyang's cultivar that locality elect that applyShenyang to afforest extensively. Hosta ventricosa Steam and Phlox subulata were selectedthat can survive in winter in Harbin to make contrast in the experiment, the above added up toeight varieties.This thesis was mainly divided into three parts, that was the research of cold- resistance,drought-resistance and shade-tolerance. Introduction from north to south, the temperaturecondition was the key to surviving, it was primary to the research of cold- resistance, only bysurviving that can carry them on broader application.The research of cold-resistance was mainly divided into three parts. First, thecorresponding physiology parament under the terms of growing naturally was determined forthe new variety to popularize and apply more widely, -35℃and -40℃was established that tocarry on under the low temperature stress and make out their's duration of range, in order toselect the variety of cold- resistance. Hosta undulate and Phlox paniculata 'Purpurea' were thevariety of the more cold- resistance.The experiment material that will be cultivated under the two kinds of different winterprotection measures separately, that was built grass curtain and put on prevent frostbite water,in compare with the natural conditions surviving in the winter, in that we can choose a bestwinter protection measure to apply the new variety. With the relative conductivity, the contentof soluble, the content of proline and the content of MDA as the cold- resistance physiologyparament.On the basis of the more cold and strong variety, the research of drought-resistance andshade-tolerance that we carried on. We limit the amount of water on natural state, so that theplants were stressed because of lacking water and then determined the correspondingphysiology parament, the variety which can stand the longest day to resist drought that we can make out, Hosta undulate was 45 days long and Phloxp aniculata 'Purpurea' was 14 days long.With the relative conductivity, the content of proline and leaf RWC as the drought-resistancephysiology parament.In the article, four irradiance to stress the ground covers was designed, then thephysiology parament was determined. Hosta undulate can bear between 60% full sun and 75%full sun. Hosta undulate can tolerance the shady environment, but if the irradiance was morefaint, it will destroy the characteristic of viewing and admiring. Phlox paniculata 'Purpurea'can bear faint irradiance, but the characteristic of viewing and admiring will be destroyed, soPhlox paniculata 'Purpurea' can live the weak shady environment, that was between full sunand 25% full sun. With the content of chlorophyll and light-photosynthesis as the shade-tolerance physiology parament.
