Based on provenance trials of Tripterygium wilfordii collected from main production area, medicinal materials quality evaluation, afforestation Eexperiment and seedling variety comparative test studied , with the purpose of selecting adequate and high production of Tripterygium wilfordii, the comparative experiments were carried out on four provenances which relatively superior to others in Lishui, jingning, Zhejiang province. The major results as follows:1. There were very singnificant variation in morphological characteristics and main agronomic characters including leaf size, underleaf cover, inflorescence, root system biomass, branch fresh weight, branch number, main branch thickness and length and number of main roots of Tripterygium wilfordii. The effection of provenances and differentiation of geographical were obvious; there had a strong correlations among main characters ,the branch fresh weight followed by branch number had the most positive influence on fresh weight of the underground roots. Tripterygium wilfordii of Xinchang and Yiwu provenances had more branches, higher branch fresh weight and excellent yield. The result also indiacated that the afforestation site habitats and afforestation site conditions had no singnificant influence on growth of Tripterygium wilfordii.2. There was very significant difference of triptolide in from different provenances of Tripterygium wilfordii. The highest value of triptolide(42.58μg.g-1) was about 9.4 times as the lowest value (4.53μg.g-1) in different individuals. In xylem the highest value of triptolide(9.21μg.g-1)was about 3 times as the lowest value(3.03μg.g-1), and the highest value of triptolide(41.93μg.g-1)was about 5 times as the lowest value(7.91μg.g-1)in phloem. The provenances of Xinchang and Yiwu had higher value of triptolide, especially Yiwu provenance, the value of triptolide was stable in whole root, phloem and xylem. The tripterine almost existed in phloem, and the value of tripterine in different provenances had no obvious difference. The value of tripterine in xylem from different provenances had significant differences in Jinning experimental sites which had not in Lishui experimental sites. This result showed that the afforestation site habitats and afforestation site conditions had influence on accumulation of tripterine.3. HPLC Chromatogram of the constituents which fully reflected chemical characteristics in Tripterygium wilfordii was established. The results showed that there were significantly difference in the relative peak area of common components in different samples (RSD varied from 12.38 126.09% in phloem, 23.67% 130.11% in xylem, and there had 3 peaks which RSD more than 100%).This showed that the quality of Tripterygium wilfordii from different provenances was significantly different. Therefore, breeding for quality and implementation of multi-indicators quality control is an important way to make medicinal Tripterygium wilfordii safety and quality control. 4. Considering content of triptolide ,content of tripterine and medicinal materials yield, Tripterygium wilfordii from Xinchang and Yiwu provenances showed excellent, these species should be the first selection to culture for medicine in Zhejiang and other similar areas.
