In recent years, dehydrated onion products are very popular in the international market, coupled with china's rapid development of vegetable processing company, on the demand for processing large white onion and cultivation area expanding. Therefore, based on combination of our on going onion research project and the need of local agricultural production, we have carried out the study of new onion varieties introduction, breeding and high-yield cultivation techniques and achieved the following main results:1. We introduced foreign seven white onion varieties, through variety comparative testing, observing and comprehensive comparative analyzing, we have selected five varieties suitable for cultivation in China, such as the White Earth, Shiraiwa and Creole.2. Through introducing foreign white onion germplasm resources, using plant hybrid selection method and systematic selecting, we nurtured two new varieties suitable for white onion dehydration processing: silver ball 1st (B1), silver ball 2nd (B2).Silver ball 1st (B1): dark green leaves, wax powder, strong resistance; white bulb, nearly spherical, longitudinal diameter 7cm, diameter 6-7cm, dry matter content about 21%, yield above 3500 kg/667m2. In - long sunshine and late maturing variety, it is suitable for growing at middle-high latitudes and high altitude.Silver ball 2nd (B2): dark green leaves, wax powder; white bulb, high ball, the vertical diameter 6-7cm, diameter 5.5cm, dry matter content about 21%, yield above 3000 kg/667m2. In - long sunshine and late maturing variety, it is suitable for growing at middle-high latitudes.Vc content, soluble sugar content, free amino acids in B1 were significantly higher than B2, but the dry matter content was not significant with B2.3. Based on different sowing date, density and fertilizer testing, we compared onion's yield, quality and bolting rate, and obtained the appropriate sowing time of B1, B2 was the September 10 ~ 15; the suitable planting density was 12 cm×13cm; in onion growth period, the appropriate topdressing amount of potassium sulfate was 150 ~ 225kg/hm2.
