Research On Landscape Application Of Ground Covers

Studying the garden application of ground covers will lead a great significance to constructing ecological garden own to the function ground covers,wich are Beautifying the environment, increasing air humidity, air purification, soil protection and other ecological functions.The ground covers with the characteristics of low and small individual plants, spreading rapidly, excellent coverage of branches and leaves, short growth cycle, rich colors.Based on the previous theory, the ground covers were classified from the life-form, ornamental characteristics, ecological habit and economic benefits.7 application principles of ground covers in the landscape was clearly put forward,which are adapting to environmental factors, coordinating the design intent; sombining with practicality and decoration; small-scale, multi-type configuration; superinducing the artistic conception beauty; Beautiful layout, with a reasonable vertical; matching with suitable florescence and color;rich in texture changes.Briefly summarized the application forms of ground covers, such as flower beds, flower border, flowered turf, rock garden, indoor greening, roof garden, pool and embankment side, restoration of vegetation and so on.It concluded and emphasized that the ground covers should be arranged reasonably with other landscape elements,like other plants, topography, waters, buildings, roads, garden ornaments.Based on the field survey of 113 garden greenland in Changsha City, the following conclusions were drawn throuth the nvestigation, analysis, comparison, summary of the ground covers species, ornamental characteristics, application frequency, planting patterns, the combination with other landscape elements.(1)The ground covers species which are applied in the garden greenland of Changsha City including 70 families and 177species, of which woody ground covers 73 species, herbaceous ground covers 80 species, lianoid ground covers 16 species, fern ground covers 5 species, dwarf bamboo ground covers 3 species.(2)The 10 species with highest frequency of applicationten,which are applied in the garden greenland of Changsha City,are Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum, Ligustrum vicaryi, Rhododevdron simsii, Ophiopogon japonicus, Gardenia jasminoides var. radicans, Rosa chinensis, anthus fragrans var. semperflorens, Rhododevdron indicum, Euonymus japonicus cv. aureo-marginatus,Jasminum mesnyi, therefore, in the garden greenland of Changsha City, the application of woody ground covers are much wider than the herbaceous ground covers and other ground covers.(3)In the garden greenland of Changsha City, the main species,as Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum, Rhododevdron simsii, Rosa chinensis,are indigenous ground covers,which reflect characteristics of Hunan.The ground covers are dominated by woody and perennial ones,with some annual and biennial ones, the seedlings of some trees,like Trachycarpus fortunei,Podocarpus macrophyllus,are used to as ground covers on Greenland.(4)There are special emphasis in different types of the garden greenland;the application of the herbaceous ground covers are increasing gradually.(5)The proportion of evergreen ground covers and deciduous ones is reasonable. Except for the herbaceous ground covers,there are other ground covers 85 species including 73 species of evergreen ones, and 12 species of deciduous ones.(6)There are mainly foliage ground covers,supplemented by flowering ground covers, some flowering ground covers with fragrant flowers, occasionally the ornamental fruit ground covers;(7)The main planting pattern is regular color block planting, less natural planting.(8)The height of different ground covers ranges from 2cm to 100cm, but with a relative small variations on the vertical configuration of ground covers...
