| The world-famous ornamental flower Holland Narcissus is favorable to people for its graceful bearing and gorgeous colors. The Narcissus merchandise production in Holland, with quantities of bulbs sold world-wide, is flourishing and playing an important role in the flower industry. In China, the domestic studies on Narcissus haven't yet gone further study into the cultivation habit and physiological properties. Therefore, researches on the topics are of great importance to widen the domestic market in Narcissus production industry.Four Narcissus varieties were used in this experiment for the cultivation research,namely the Trumpet Narcissus species Dutch Master and Marieke, the Large-cupped Narcissus species Delibe and Pinza. The results showed that they can growth normally under shanghai weather conditions but had to be planted two months later and flowered one month earlier than that of Holland, also have no seeds obtained.The experiment showed that after the narcissus plant blooming in April, the bulbs bud with small leaf can be seen, but mainly the bulb or scales growth and expand, with little changing in the bud. At the beginning of middle May, the bud started to floral differentiation, and flower organs differentiation start in June, stamen and pistil differentiation finished in July. The period for floral differentiation proceeds about two months, and is earlier than that of Chinese narcissus.Chilling treatment of the narcissus bulbs plays a great role in promoting efflorescence. The length of chilling treatment for bulbs decided the narcissus plant blooming time, the longer the chilling period for the bulbs, the earlier the narcissus plant is efflorescence, also the plant height and flower stem height. That's to say, during the 6~11 weeks'chilling treatment, the longer the chilling treatment is, the earlier the plant blooms and the higher the flower stem is. That can be used as the foundations for narcissus flower period control during festivals.
