An experiment was conducted to examine the effects of compound Chinese medicine preparations on the growth performance, digestive enzyme activities, gut structure, growth hormone receptor, serum hormone levels and the digestive rate of nutrition,in order to study the effect and mechanism of compound Chinese medicine preparations on improving the growth and the gut structure of piglets.Ninety "Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire" crossbred weanling stress piglets(at the same age)were randomly divided into 3 groups of 30 piglets each by weight and sex.The piglets in GroupⅠwere fed a basal diet;the piglets in GroupⅡwere fed the diet plus 10 mg·kg-1 compound Chinese medicine preparations; The piglets in GroupⅢwere fed the diet plus 20 mg·kg-1compound Chinese medicine preparations. The trial was conducted for 31d.Body absolute weights(AW),average daily gain(ADG),average day feed intake (ADFI)and the ratio of feed to gain(F/G)in all piglets were determined on 14d 24d,45d.Blood samples in fifty percent(15 per group)of one hundred piglets were taken from the anterior vena cava on d 14,24,32,45,for measuring the serum levels of growth hormone(GH),insulin(INS),Insulin-like growth factor-Ⅰ(IGF-Ⅰ), triiodothyronine(T3)and thyroxin(T4).In the middle period time, the dejecta of every group were collectd for messuring the digestive ablity of crude protein and crude fat.At the end of the trial,18 male piglets(6 per group)were bled via the anterior vena cava, gut content were collected for mesuring the trypsin activities, lipase activities, amylase activities;4 section of intestine were collected for determining villus height, crypt depth and VH/CD.The results were as follows:1.The diets adding compound Chinese medicine preparations can significantly improve growth performance in weanling stress piglets.Compared with the control group,AW of trial groups piglets had no significant difference on d 14,24(P>0.05),but enhanced significantly on d 45(P<0.01 or P<0.05); ADG and ADFI of trial groups piglets improved significantly on postweanling(P<0.01), respectively;F/G reduced significantly on d 24~45 postweaned(P<0.01 or P<0.05), respectively.Compared with GroupⅢ,ADG in GroupⅡpiglets improved significantly during d 24~45 postweaned(P<0.05);ADFI in GroupⅡ,piglets improved significantly during d 24~45 postweaned(P<0.05);Compared with the control group, the diarrhea indexes in GroupⅡ,Ⅲpiglets reduced significantly on d 24~45 postweaned(P<0.01).2.The diets adding compound Chinese medicine preparations have significant effect on mucosal morphology in weanling stress piglets.Compared with the control group, villus height, villus width, crypt depth of the middle of duodenum, ielum, two end of jejunum in the piglets of groupⅡincreased significantly(P<0.01 orP<0.05),VH/CD(VCR)increased significantly (P<0.01);Compared with the control group, villus height, crypt depth of the middle of the middle of duodenum in the piglets of groupⅢincreased significantly(P<0.01), villus height, crypt depth of the front section of jejunum in the piglets of groupⅢincreased significantly(P<0.01),villus height, crypt depth of the middle of the middle of ielum in the piglets of groupⅢincreased significantly(P<0.01);Compared with the groupⅢ,villus height,of the middle of duodenum in the piglets of groupⅡincreased significantly(P<0.01),villus width of the back section of jejunum in the piglets of groupⅡincreased significantly(P<0.01),villus height,,crypt depth of the middle of the middle of ielum in the piglets of groupⅡincreased significantly(P<0.01),VH/CD(VCR) didn't increased significantly(P>0.05).3.The diets adding compound Chinese medicine preparations improved significantly digestive enzyme activities in weanling stress piglets.Compared with the control group, trypsin activities, lipase activities and amylase activities of the piglets in groupⅡ,groupⅢimproved respectively significantly(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Compared with the groupⅢ,trypsin activities of the middle of duodenum of the piglets in groupⅡimproved significantly(P<0.01),lipase activities and amylase activities of the front section of jejunum of the piglets in groupⅡimproved respectively significantly(P<0.05),trypsin activities the back section of jejunum, the middle of the middle of ielum in the piglets of groupⅡdidn't increase significantly (P>0.05).4.The diets adding compound Chinese medicine preparations improved significantly digestive rate of nutrition in weanling stress piglets.Compared with the control group, digestive rate of crude protein of piglets in groupⅡ,groupⅢimproved respectively 45.7%,27.6%(P<0.01);digestive rate of crude fat of piglets in groupⅡ,groupⅢimproved respectively 51.3%,32.6%(P<0.01). Compared with the groupⅢ,digestive rate didn't improve significantly. 5.The diets adding compound Chinese medicine preparations had improved significantly hormone levels in weanling stress piglets.Compared with d 14,serum GH,INS,IGF-I,T3,T4 levels didn't change significantly on d 24;there had no significant difference between 3 groups.Compared with d 24,serum GH,INS,IGF- I,T3,T4 levels in the control group piglets decreased significantly on d 32(P<0.05 or P<0.01),serum GH,INS,IGF- I,T3, T4 levels of piglets in groupⅡ,groupⅢhad no significant difference on d 24~32 (P>0.05);Compared with the control group, serum GH,INS,IGF- I,T3,T4 levels of piglets in groupⅡ,groupⅢimproved significantly(P<0.01 or P<0.05)on d 32; Compared with d 24,serum GH,INS,IGF- I,T3,T4 levels of piglets in the control group decreased significantly(P<0.01 or P<0.05)on d 32,had no significant difference on d 45;Compared with the control group, serum GH,INS,IGF- I,T3,T4 levels in groupⅡ,groupⅢpiglets improved significantly on d 32,45(P<0.01 or P<0.05);there had no significant difference between groupⅡ,groupⅢ(P>0.05).These results showed that serious stress responses were observed in piglets feeding basal diets during week 1 to 2 after weanling.Weanling stress decreased immunities, disturbed endocrines, and inhibited growth of weanling piglets. But early weanling stress syndrome of weaned piglets were reduced by addition of compound Chinese medicine preparations in diets. The compound Chinese medicine preparations diets improved body environments, modulated the regular metabolism, enhanced growth performance, and stimulated growth of weaning piglets efficiently.
