| Twelve kinds of Chinese herb medicines were screened out according to the experience of curingfunctionality indigestion and the report of promoting the function of digestion in swine, cattle andsheep in veterinary clinics. On the basis of the traditional theory of homeland pharmacology, threecompound recipes which were used to promote digestion and nurse appetite were composedaccording to the rational compatibility of medicines and the relation of medicine and animaldigestion and absorption. Every compound recipe was put in rats' feeds in proportion of thepercentage of 1, 2, 4. Every kind of rat's feeds was used to feed rat that was in the growing period.The best compound recipe was screened out according to daily increasing weight, daily appetite,rate of utilizing feeds, rate of stomach leave empty, rate of small intestine propulsion, capacity ofgastric juice, acid degree of gastric juice, stomach prolease activity. The safe experiment ofcompound recipeⅢwas done, the result showed that the compound recipe was safe. The dogs'food that was put in compound recipeⅢwas fed to dogs that were in the delectation period. Thetargets of young dogs' daily increasing weight, stomach leave empty, stomach prolease activity,hematology were detected. The results showed:1. fed to rats' feeds that were put in the percentage of 1, 2 of compound recipeⅢ, dailyincreasing weight, daily appetite and the rate of utilizing feeds of rats were enhanced obviously, therate of stomach leave empty and small intestine propulsion were enhanced significantly, thecapacity of gastric juice, acid degree of gastric juice and stomach prolease activity were promotednotably. These showed compound recipeⅢwas the best recipe that was used to promote rats'digestion function.2. The acute toxicity experiment result of compound recipeⅢshowed its LD50＞5g/kg. Thetargets, including daily increasing weight, hematology targets and the function of liver and kidneywere not significant different with the control group. Every organ did not happen pathology change.These showed that compound recipeⅢwas safe.3. Fed with compound recipeⅢin the percentage of 1, after two months young dogs' dailyincreasing weight, the rate of stomach leave empty and stomach prolease activity enhancedsignificantly. The number of R.B.C, hemoglobin, W.B.C, the lymphocyte percentage, all albumenand albumin in the serum raised. Urea nitrogen and creatinine in the serum increased. Theseshowed that compound recipeⅢcould promote dogs' digestion function.
