Hunan Province has a long history of tea production, the production and area were inthe front of country, Dongting Lake District's tea production accounts for about one-thirdof the province, together with the surrounding area, accounting for more than 50% of theprovince. Soil is the foundation for the growth of tea, supplying the essential nutrients, and playing an important role in the high yield and quality of tea. This paper studied thefertility status of the tea garden soil derived from chief parent materials through fieldinvestigating and sampling, laboratory analysis and computer technology. Taking pH,organic matter, total N, P, K, available N, P, K, slowly available K as the assessmentindices, evaluated the fertility quality of the tea garden soil. The main results were asfollows:1. The fertility quality of 10 tea bases could be generally summarized as follows: soilpH is suitable; organic matter content was medium; the three major nutrient elements totalN, P, K content were not very rich; the available P content was below medium-level, theavailable K content was low, the slowly available K content was medium, but available Ncontent was high.2. The vertical variations of fertility quality indices were different in soil profile. Thecontent of organic matter, total N, P and available N, P, K decreased with increasingdepth in the profile, but soil pH, total K and slowly available K had no significantvariations.3. The results of evaluating on the soil fertility quality by use of the Fuzzycomprehensive assessment showed: most of the tea bases for the soil fertility quality werein the 3 grade belonging to the middle level, including 6 tea gardens of Changchun,Jinjing, Xiangfeng, Kaihui, Jinhua and Shengchakesuo, accounting for 60% of the total. The tea bases belonging to the two grade of higher fertility accounted for 40% of the total, including 4 tea gardens of Xuefengshan, Junshan, Yanglu and Jiuli.4. The organic carbon content of tea was significantly positively correlated with soil total N. The P content of tea was significantly positively correlated with soil pH. The Kcontent of tea was extremely significantly positively correlated with soil slowly availableK. In the quality elements of tea, CAF was significantly positively correlated with the soilpH and total P, significantly negatively correlated with available N.
