Potato production needs a mass of seed potato, especially in south of China where the altitude is low so that seed tubers can not be stored resulted in a big demand for the seed potato market. Liupanshui City locates in southwest of China with high altitude where the climate and land resource are suitable for growing seed potatoes. However, lack of varieties to meet demands of the market, small scale of seed potato production, long cycle of the propagation and lag of the techniques in seed potato production inhibited production and usage of healthy seed. Development in mass microtuber production has achieved in Huazhong Agricultural University (HAU) and shed a light on improving seed potato techniques. because of different cultivation style between potato microtuber and traditional potato, some farmers can not accept microtuber. So if we want the microtuber to be widely used in potato production, Difference between micro- and normal tubers brings on the knottiness of adopting this technique to potato farmers. Therefore, progress in developing an applicable method for farmers will accelerate the establishment of new seed potato system based on microtubersMicrotubers used in the experiment were imported from HAU. The research about was carried out in Daheishan, Dahe Town, Zhongshan District of Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province. Three varieties, E-potato 1 (E1), E-potato 3 (E3) and Nanzhong 552 (N552) were employed. Effects of nursing methods, transplanting date, plant density and fertilizer amount on number of tubers produced and tuber weight were investigated.1. The emergence rate of microtubers grown in trays and cups before transplanting were significantly higher than that in the nutrient blocks and nursery beds.2. No difference was found among varieties in survival rate after transplanting, but very significant difference was observed in number of tubers formed E3 and E1 produced more tubers than N552 and difference between E3 and E1 was also remarkable. The transplanting date had significant effects on number of tubers produced, July 10th and Augest 1th were significantly better than July 20th which may related to the emergence rate.3. Different plant density gave a significant difference in both tuber weight and number of tubers formed. A order of varieties from the best was E3>E1>N552. According to the multiple comparison, the density of 12000 plants per 667m~2 may be the best choice since further increase in plant density accompanied with a decreased rate of tuber formation and less tuber weight.4. There were no significant influence of the fertilizer on number of tubers produced, but it was very significant on tuber weight with more fertilizers used higher tuber weight obtained.
