With the developing of the infrastructure construction and the communication cause, the laying pipes and wire cables is increasing rapidly. A machine of digging ditches specially -ditching machine gets used widely day by day. The paper introduces the historical development of the domestic and abroad ditching machine ,and the famous ditching machine manufactures and their typical products, and some same products which are developed by domestic research institutes and manufacturers independently.The chain trencher with its advantage for trench excavation and laying cable has become the main construction equipment.The paper designs a new type of ditching edaphic and mineral ditching machine with reamer in order to solve that general ditching machine is difficult to be applied to ditch the soil such as freezing soil and rocks. Based on actural working condition, the gearbox and the reamer opener which are most important parts of the new type of ditching edaphic and mineral ditching machine with reamer are designed. What's more, the hydraulic lifting arm which is the most important part of the new chain-ditching machine is designed. In additiong, the drawings in detail of all these parts have been drawed. The production workshops are manufacturing the parts positively according to the drawings in detail. Based on the initial design of the new type of ditching chain- edaphic and mineral ditching machine with reamer, the paper optimizes further the structure of the chain according to the requirements of structure and function, the chain with different reamers is designed. It can lower twenty percents of the production cost.And the design thought of making use of the chain plate of current standard to manufacture the new type of chain is proposed. Because the current machines and equipment can be used directly, it is supposed to reduce the production cost largely. Because of the big safe margin of the new type chain, its quality is optimized. As a result, its power loss is decreased and the energy resources are saved. In addition, the paper makes use of Virtual Design to make three-dimension modeling of the new type of chain improving the design efficiency and shortening period of development of the ditching machine.The paper creats three-dimension entity modeling of the reamer opener-one of the most important parts of this chain-ditching machine. And kinematics and dynamics simulation has been carried out for the performance of the reamer opener. Based on the technology of virtual prototype, the polygon effect which is caused by the movement of the delivery of the new type of chain is analysed in terms of the displacement, velocity and force. And the influence of polygon effect to the ditching process is researched deaply.The paper performs finite element analysis of the tense arm, the relatively weak parts in the process of ditching for the new type of chain-ditching machine. The force analysis of the tense arm is performed in the process of ditching. The safe margin is checked and the weak position is pointed. It establishes basis for the research and application of tense arm.
