In order to explore the adaptive mechanisms of Artemisia frigida willd in arid grassland, the experiment took A. frigida of natural grassland and studied the cell membrane permeability, the MDA content, the content of soluble sugar and soluble protein, photosynthetic rate, and the protective enzymes activities, phenolic compounds content of leaves using the method of natural drought stress. The results are as follows:1,At 8 day of drought dress, soil water content was 6.07%,leaves of A. frigida loss less water, the content of MDA remained at a stable level, membrane system damaged less; From 8 to 12 day of drought dress, soil water content decreased to 2.75% from 6.07%, MDA accumulated greatly and membrane system damaged less seriously; From 0 to 8 day of drought dress, A. frigida could resistant disadvantage effects which worked by drought stress.2,The chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate of leaf decreased rapidly from 2 to 8 day of drought dress; From 8 to 12 day of drought dress, soil water content decreased to less than 6.07%, chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate of leaf decreased slowly.3,The content of soluble sugar decreased from 0 to 8 day of drought dress and increased from 8 to 12 day of drought dress; the content of soluble protein remained stably from 0 to 8 day of drought dress and increased rapidly from 8 to 12 day of drought dress.4,With the time of drought stress increased, the trend of SOD activity was formly increase and then decrease and SOD activity reached the maximum at 4 day of drought stress; POD and CAT activity were lower than that of control in the whole course of drought stress; SOD is the key enzyme for removal of reactive oxygen under drought stress. Under normal growth conditions, POD play an important role in the course of removing reactive oxygen.5,Phenolic compounds content of A. frigida decreased rapidly from 0 to 8 day of drought dress and increased from 8 to 12 day of drought dress.Above all results afford theory evidence for studying adaptation mechanisms of A. frigida in arid grassland.
