On the basis of Sichuan tobacco-growing areas, potassium, and chlorine content and ratio of potassium to chlorine of flue-cured tobacco were analyzed, and the comparison between Sichuan and high-quality tobacco-growing areas aboard were conducted.By applying membership function and estimating weight values for each index by using the method of principal component analysis, the comprehensive evaluation of potassium, and chlorine content and ratio of potassium were evaluated. The relationship between potassium content, chlorine content, ratio of potassium and the other main chemical components, physical properties, main volatile aroma components as well as sensory evaluation of flue-cured tobacco leaves were also analyzed. Main results were as follows:1. On the basis of 4 grades (B2F,C2F,C3F,X2F) of 243 tobacco samples tobacco leaves from Sichuan tobacco-growing areas, all-around descriptive statistics analysis for potassium, chlorine content and ratio of potassium to chlorine of flue-cured tobacco leaves were done. The results indicated that: the tobacco leaves in Sichuan tobacco-growing areas had medium potassium content(1.98%), there were small samples of potassium content were less than 1.5%. Contents of chlorine was suitable(0.36%), but part samples were on the low side. The ratio of potassium to chlorine was suitable (6.52), only small samples of potassium to chlorine were lower than 4, but indicators of the ratio of potassium to chlorine and chlorine content had big variation.2. On the basis of 4 grades (B2F,C2F,C3F,X2F) of 1315 tobacco samples tobacco leaves from 6 typical provinces tobacco-growing areas domestic, potassium, and chlorine content and ratio of potassium to chlorine of flue-cured tobacco between Sichuan and high-quality tobacco-growing areas aboard were analyzed. The results indicated that: potassium content in Sichuan tobacco-growing areas was higher than Yunnan, Henan, Shandong, but was lower than Fujian and reached special significant level; chlorine content in Sichuan tobacco-growing areas was significant higher than Guizhou, Fujian, but was lower than Henan, Shandong; ratio of potassium to chlorine in Sichuan tobacco-growing areas was significant higher than Henan, Shandong, but significant lower than Guizhou, Fujian. Sichuan was lower significantly than Zimbabwe (2.23%) and Brazil (2.57%) in contents of potassium, but content of chlorine and ratio of potassium to chlorine were not significantly at 5% level.3. Based on 243 tobacco samples in Sichuan tobacco-growing areas, the variation of the potassium, chlorine, ratio of potassium to chlorine of flue-cured tobacco leaves among cultivars, stalk positions, areas and years were analyzed. The results showed that: content of potassium showed that Yunyan87> K326> Yunyan85> Hongda among cultivars, lower leaf>middle leaf>upper leaf among stalk position. Yibin tobacco-growing areas were significant highest among areas. Content of potassium were not significant at 5% level among years. Content of chlorine of K326 were highest, but others were not significant among cultivars, and which were suitable and were not significant among stalk position. Content of chlorine in Luzhou tobacco-growing areas were significant high, and which were lowest in Panzhihua among areas. Content of chlorine were highest in 2003, and 2004, 2005 had a downward trend among years. Ratio of potassium to chlorine of Yunyan87 were significant highest among cultivars. Lower leaves were significant high, and upper leaves were lowest among stalk position. Luzhou tobacco-growing areas was significant low among areas, and which showed an increase trend among years.4. Based on 40 tobacco samples in Sichuan tobacco-growing areas in 2006, analyzed the relationship between potassium content, chlorine content, ratio of potassium to chlorine and the other chemical composition as well as physical property. The results indicated that different potassium content, chlorine content, ratio of potassium to chlorine had different influence on chemical components and physical property in tobacco leaves. As a whole, the potassium content and ratio of potassium to chlorine had significant positive correlation with sugar content, and had negative correlation with nitrogen compounds, but the chlorine was the opposite. The potassium content and ratio of potassium to chlorine increased then decreased along with increase of leaf thickness, significantly increased along with increase of leaf width. The chlorine content decreased, and then increased along with increase of single leaf weight. The potassium content decreased along with leaf specific weight, ratio of potassium to chlorine increased then decreased along with increase of leaf specific weight.5. By applying cluster analysis, variance analysis and regression analysis, the relationship between potassium as well as chlorine content and main volatile aroma components as well as sensory evaluation of flue-cured tobacco leaves were studied. The results indicated that: (1) The group with the highest content of potassium had the highest contents of main volatile aroma components, and was much bigger than the other two groups with both medium and lowest contents of potassium. Quality of aroma, volume of aroma, after taste, combustibility as well as total score had positive correlation with potassium content, and the regression equations reached a significant level at 1%. (2) The group with the contents of chlorine was between 0.4% and 0.6% had the highest contents of products degraded by cembrane and neoplytadiene and main volatile aroma components. With the increasing of chlorine content, quality of aroma, volume of aroma, after taste, undesirable taste, combustibility, ash as well as total score were increase by degrees, and then decreased, and the regression equations reached a significant level at 1%.6. Based on 86 tobacco samples in Sichuan tobacco-growing areas in 2006, the comprehensive evaluation of potassium, and chlorine content and ratio of potassium were evaluated. Calculated the sore of each sample, according to the score points after cluster analysis, we can divided it into 4 big groups by cluster analysis. The results showed that: Potassium, and chlorine content and ratio of potassium comprehension index in the first group was highest (0.971±0.02),others were 0.765±0.09, 0.579±0.03 and 0.461±0.05 respectively.In the first group, Dechang tobacco-growing areas had a higher proportion, Yanbian and Ningnan tobacco-growing areas had some samples, and Mianning, Xichang, Yibin and Panzhihua tobacco-growing areas had a small sample. Grades of C3F and X2F had a higher proportion, B2F and C3L had a small sample in the first group. In the second group, Miyi, Yanbian and Puge tobacco-growing areas had a higher proportion, Huidong, Daxing of Xichang and Dechang tobacco-growing areas had a small sample. Grades of C3F (Yunyan 85 and Honghuadajinyuan) had a higher proportion, X2Fand B2F (Yunyan 85) had some samples, C2F and C3L had a lower proportion in the second group. In the third group, Ningnan tobacco-growing areas had a higher proportion, Renhe of Panzhihua, Puge had some samples, Yanbian and Miyi tobacco-growing areas had a small sample. Grades of C3F (Yunyan 85) had a higher proportion, B2F and X2F had some samples in the third group. In the fourth group, Huidong, Renhe of Panzhihua tobacco-growing areas had a higher proportion, Neidong of Huili and Qiluogou of Ningnan and Junlian of Yibi tobacco-growing areas had a small sample. Grades of C3F (Yunyan 85) and Honghuadajinyuan had a higher proportion; B2L and B2F (Yunyan 85) had a small sample in the fourth group.
