This study designed the breeding project management system for Xianan cattle and estimated genetic parameters of body size and the breeding value of bull, and researched the influence factors for growth traits. This study also researched the population genetic variation and relationships between gene loci and body size traits in Xianan cattle using microsatellite DNA markers. Meanwhile, this study researched the possible adaptation of Xianan cattle in 10 areas in China using fuzzy mathematics. Its major contents are as follows:Trial 1: Design on breeding project management system for Xianan cattleThe Visual FoxPro 6.0 database technology was used to design breeding project management system for Xianan cattle. The system can realize the function of input, browse and inquiry for the data information in breeding project of Xianan cattle, which has improved the working efficiency of breeding for Xianan cattle.Trial 2: Estimation of genetic parameters for growth traits of nucleus herd of Xianan cow and breeding value of Xianan bullThis study estimated genetic parameters of body height, body length, chest girth, leg girth and shank circle at 6 months, 12 months, 18 months of Xianan cow by animal model using MTDFREML. The date included records collected between 1992 and 2005.The results showed that heritability of these traits were 0.31~0.60; the genetic correlation of body size at 6 months, 12 months, 18 months were 0.72~0.94, 0.71~0.88, 0.73~0.95, respectively; the genetic correlation of body size between different ages were 0.97~0.95. In this study single trait animal model of best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) was used to estimate the breeding value of 18-month body height, body length, heart girth, gam girth, cannon circumference in Xianan bulls. The results showed that the breeding value of number 213 ranked in the first or second at every trait except heart girth, the breeding value of number 104 ranked in the first or second at every trait except body length, the breeding value of number 213,104 and 248 ranked in top 10 at every traits. By using principal component analysis, breeding values of 5 body traits for 27 Xianan bulls were comprehensive evaluated in this study. Three levels were classified and they contained most of the information. The cumulation is 97.002%. Through the comprehensive score of the 3 principal component, bulls of top 10 list were sorting, the result showed that: complex breeding value of number 213 bull is first, number 104 bull is next, the specific ranking is as followes:213> 104> 286> 201> 103> 266> 248> 278> 1516> 0007.Trial 3: A study and analysis on influencing factors for growth traits of nucleus herd of Xianan cowThis study researched the effect of the years of birth,the season of birth and passages to the body traits of Xianan cow by GLM using SAS statistic software. The result showed that the effect of the years of birth and passages to the body traits of Xianan cow in different age phase was significant, and the effect of seasons was not significant.Trial 4: Study on population genetic variation and microsatellite marker to the traits of body size of Xianan cattleThis study selected 8 microsatellite DNA markers for the population genetic variation and relationships between gene loci and body size traits in Xianan cattle. The results showed that the alleles of these 8 microsatellite markers are 7,6,6,6,6,4,6 and 6,their PIC are 0.764, 0.775, 0.786, 0.701, 0.723, 0.570, 0.759 and 0.776, their heterozygosis are 0.801, 0.784, 0.824, 0.744, 0.772, 0.648, 0.802 and 0.815. These 8 microsatellites were discovered to have positive or negative correlation with some body size traits in the population.Trial 5: Research on adaptability evaluation of Xianan cattle using fuzzy similarity preference ratioThis study selected 6 climatic factors (maximum temperature, mean July temperature, annual temperature range, mean annual humidity, days of annual frostless season, annual sunshine hours) and 10 areas in China (Nanjing, Shanghai, Beijing, Shijiangzhuang, Changchun, Haerbing , Guangzhou, Kunming, Huhehaote) to analysis the adaptability of Xianan cattle using fuzzy similarity preference ratio. The results showed that the ranking results of possible adaptation in these areas is Nanjing > Shanghai > Beijing and Shijiangzhuang > Changchun > Haerbing > Guangzhou > Kunming > Huhehaote.
