Colour waxy maize single-cross variety Xiangcainuo No.2 was bred by inbred-line N03(female) and inbred-line Z01(male),which was selected by Agronomy College of Hunan Agricultural University in 2001.In 2002-2007,all kinds of yield test results showed:colour waxy maize Xiangnuo No.2 had the characteristics of wide suitability,high stress tolerance, low plant height,high yield,excellent quality,good commoditize of fresh ear and high plant economic value.It has been approved and released by the Hunan Provincial Committee of Crop Variety in March 2008.In this paper,the ecological adaptability and techniques for seed production and high-yielding cultivation of a new maize cultivar Xiangcainuoyu No.2,the main results were as follows:1.Xiangcainuoyu No.2 showed high yield in ecological adaptability test in Lianqiao town of Shaodong county,Chaoyang town of Cili County and the Loudi institute of agriculture science.Compared with the control jiannanhuanuo,the yield of fresh ear increased by 5.3%-10.3%,in the three pilot Xiangnongcainuoyu No.2 has a production of fresh ear averaged 936.3 kg/667m~2,with an average increase of 8.4%,the highest yield Shaodong pilot got 1035 kg of fresh middle ear per 667m~2.The identification of ecological adaptation results showed that,Xiangcainuoyu No.2 was suitable for cultivation in these areas.2.The results of seed productin test showed that the ideal planting density of the female of Xiangcainuoyu No.2's was 45000-67500 plants per hacter.With the continued increase in density,ear length shortened,bald sharp became longer,the number of grain reduced and 100-seed weight became lower,significant changes occured when the density reached 75 000 plants per hacter,the yield of hybrid seed was significantly lower than those of other density treatments.3.Physiological measurements showed that Xiangcainuoyu No.2 in seedling stage had the highest chlorophyll content(141.842mg/g),higher soluble protein content(16.267mg/g), at the same time it had a higher soluble sugar content(0.976μg/g).The above results showed that Xiangcainuo No.2 had a strong seedling physiological metabolism,which was the physiological reasons of achieving high-yield.4.The tests of different densities and different artificial measures were carried out. The results showed that,if for the purpose of harvesting fresh ear,the ideal density of Xiangcainuoyu No.2 was 60 000/hm~2,and its fresh ear output reached the highest,to 679.8 kg/667m~2.Yield and quality coordinated under this density,and planting benefit was the highest,GDP per hectare up to 29 520 yuan.After artificial pollination,the economic traits and ear yield of Xiangcainuoyu No.2' had no significant increase,and economic traits and yield of Xiangcainuoyu No.2 in natural stage was the ideal.The ear length,ear lines,number of grain and fresh ear weight of Xiangcainuoyu No.2 have no obvious difference compared with the natural ones.
