Sow endometritis is a great harassment in modern pig industry. The reasons are complicated and can be attributed to bacterial infections, sow, boar and the inobservance of operating regulations etc. in large scale pig farm. The prevention and treatment of this disease were also various because of the complicated reasons, including scientific breeding, strengthened management, proper immunity and special treatment etc.Through investigation on 6 scaled breeding pig farms in Nanping city of Fujian province, it was found that the morbidity of sow endometritis was very high, average 22.1%. There were significant correlation between the morbidity of sow endometritis and birth order, seasons and management of the farms. The morbidity of sow endometritis rose with the increase of birth orders and rose quickly from first birth order to second, then slowly. The morbidity of sow endometritis was different by season, high in hot summer and relatively high in cold winter. At the same time, the investigation showed that the morbidity has great relations with feeding management, high-level feeding management decreased the morbidity of sow endometritis, and vice versa.72 trains of bacteria were isolated from the uterus secretion of 52 sows infected with endometritis in 6 scaled pig breeding farms. The 72 trains of bacteria belonged to seven species of bacteria that are E.coli, streptococcus, staphylococcus, salmonella, pseudomonas, purulent rod bacilli and Klebsiella. E.coli, streptococcus and staphylococcus accounted for 43.0%, 23.6% and 16.7%, respectively. 61.5% of them were infected by single bacteria in these 52 endometritis sows, others infected by mixed bacteria. Mixed infection caused by E.coil accounted for 28.8% of the total infectious sows. The drug sensitivity test of E.coli, streptococcus and staphylococcus showed that ceftiofur and lincomycin were highly sensitive, and erythromycin, streptomycin and terramycin were lowly sensitive. According to the results of the drug sensitivity test, ninety endometritis sows were assigned to 3 groups, 30 sows in each group. Three groups of endometritis sows were treated with ceftiofur, lincomycin and penicillin-streptomycin, respectively. And other 30 healthy sows were assigned to control group. Results showed that the sensitive drugs are effective on the endometritis sows and had no effect on the conception rate of the healed sows as well as litter size.
