The genetic variation of the hybrid BC1F3 between Elymus dahuricus and Hordeum brevisubulatum were studied by means of biology, cytology and isozyme electrophoresis. The results were as follows:①The growing period, growth rate and regeneration of the hybrid BC1F3 tended toward recurrent parent H. brevisubulatum.②The fertilities of BC1F3 were recovered and enhanced in different degree.The rates of fertile pollen in YF3-64 and YF3-93 were 92.79% and 93.91% respectively, the natural seed setting rates under open pollination were 37.52% and 56.70% respectively.③Fourteen lines of BC1F3 generation were significantly different in grass output, e.g. YF3-64,YF3-74,YF3-75,YF3-83 showed higher grass outputs than parents,whose HPs were respectively 75.53%, 75.12%,65.27%and 66.16%, showing a remarkable heterosis; some others like PF3-15, PF3-52, YF3-31 and YF3-42 performed poorer in output than parents,their grass outputs were respectively 351.2,226.0, 371.9 and 341.6 g/clump.④The drought resistance of the hybrid BC1F3 were in the middle of the parents. After comprehensive evaluation the order of drought resistance ability of 16 tested materials was :Elymus dahuricus > YF3-23> YF3-43> YF3-44 =YF3-53 >YF3-64=YF3-85> PF3-52= YF3-31> YF3-93> YF3-83> YF3-75>YF3-42> PF3-15> YF3-74> H. brevisubulatum.⑤The chromosome number of somatic cell in the hybrid BC1F3 was all 28,the same as recurrent parent H. brevisubulatu.⑥The zymogram of POD and EST of hybrid BC1F3 were the mutual suplementary isozymes of the parents and there were phenomenon of losing bands, some lines had hybrid bands in the zymogram of EST.The zymogram of BC1F3 were affected obviously by recurrent parent H. brevisubulatum.⑦YF3-64, YF3-74 and YF3-83 had high heterosis, for the development of animal husbandry areas, YF3-23, YF3-43 and YF3-44 has strong drought resistance can be used to improve the environment and developed artificial pasture . YF3-64 had good performance both the yield and drought resistance, can be a new improved strain with high yield and better resistive to promote.
