In this paper, outstanding views with Acer palmatum Thunb. and A. palmatum 'Atropurpure' at Viewing Fish at Flower Harbor Park, Hangzhou Botanical Garden, Orioles Singing in the Willows Park, Lotus Flowers in the Breezing Winding at Courtyard Garden, Prince Bay Park etc in Hangzhou were selected as cases. In order to analyze the characteristics of planting arrangement, connection with other plants and landscape appearance of A. palmatum and A. palmatum 'Atropurpure', the views were investigated and classified into 4 types: landscape architecture yard, grass turf, garden road and water environment, then measured and drawn into ichnography. The variations of chlorophyll content, anthocyanin content and the soluble sugar content during the color-changing period of maple (A. palmatum and A. palmatum 'Atropurpure') leaves in autumn-winter and their correlation with temperature were determined through experiment, in order to study the physiological changes of A. palmatum leaves. The results were summarized as follows:(1) The application characteristics of A. palmatum and A. palmatum 'Atropurpure' in the landscape architecture yard, grass land, garden road and water environment, the arrangement rules with tree colors and forms, and problems of selecting context trees, underlayer flowering shrubs and groundcover plants were summarized. An optimal environment in which A. palmatum and A. palmatum 'Atropurpure' could represent a preferable autumn sight in a longer time was obtained through observation and summarization.(2) Field observation on the West Lake landscape revealed that A. palmatum 'Atropurpure' sprouted in late March, and a preferable view could be represented in 1 week. The leaves began to turn red in late October, and changed into red fully in mid-November appearing a better autumn view, and completely detached in mid-December. The view could last until late December, when A. palmatum 'Atropurpure' was kept in better shading. The leaves of A. palmatum sprouted at the end of March, and a better spring view was represented in early April. They gradually turned into green during late May to early June. But the leaves could turn green in early May while A. palmatum was kept in better shading, such as the A. palmatum in Yu Quan Guan Yu Yard in the Botanical Garden, Hua gang guan yu Peony Ting. The color-changing time and leaf falling time of A. palmatum was basically the same as that of A. palmatum 'Atropurpure'.(3) The experiment indicated that the chlorophyll content of the leaves of A. palmatum was gradually reduced during autumn-winter. The chlorophyll content of the leaves in the shady side of the canopy was significantly higher than that in the sunny side, and the east orientation of the sunny side was significantly higher than the west orientation. However, anthocyanin content kept increasing over the whole period, and the variations became especially notable after November 21. The soluble sugar content grew rapidly before November 21, and tend to stability afterwards. It showed a positive correlation between temperature and chlorophyll content, a negative correlation between temperature and anthocyanin content, temperature and the soluble sugar content.
