The gross anatomy, light and electron microscopies were used to observe the morphologic structures of the larynx in the Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus). The results are as followings.1. The cricoid cartilage is also one of the largest cartilages as the thyroid cartilage in the Bactrian camel, the ratio between the arch and the body of the cricoid cartilage is larger than others; the thyroid foramen in the thyroid cartilage is separate in the female camel, however in the male camel the thyroid foramen is fused with the gap of the rostral cornu of the thyroid cartilage; the corniculate cartilage is very large.2. The mucous epithelium varied at different locations of the larynx, the epithelial layers of the vocal cord, arytenoid cartilage and epiglottis(atrium glottides)were composed of squamous epithelium while the other area were covered with pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium. Submucosal glands were tubuloalveolar with mucous (acidic and neutral) secretions. SEM revealed that most of mucosal glands have a cover on its opening and by which the opening was half-covered. Scattered lymphocytes and granulocytes were found in the epithelium. The larynx-associated lymphoid tissue (LALT) has also been observed in the epithelium, some of which exhibit as typical lymphoid follicles, and others as aggregating lymphocytes.
