In this study, water hyacinth and maize straw were used as silage material to probe into the effect of moisture contents, mixed ratios and additives on the silage quality of when water hyacinth and maize straw were mixed to ensile, which providing a theoretical basis for modulating top quality of mixture silage between water hyacinth and maize straw and also providing a feasible way for development and utilization of water hyacinth.Experiment one: An only water hyacinth storage (WHS) and five sorts of mixed ratio silages of water hyacinth and maize straw were ensiled in this test, the mass ratio of water hyacinth to maize straw (mass ratio) was 8:2,7:3,6:4,5:5 and 4:6(short for 82MS, 73MS, etc.) respectively among five mixture silages. The control (CON) group, maize straw fermented green juice (FGJC) group, the water hyacinth fermented green juice (FGJW) group, formic acid (FA) group and foraform (FOR) group were set in WHS and all mixed silages. Ensilaged for 60 days at normal temperature, the pH value, dry matter recovery (DMR), gas loss rate (GLR), ammonia (NH3-N) and other indicators were measured with repetion for each treatment. Results showed that the effects of four kinds of silage additives were remarkable on all groups, among which the additive effect of FGJC and FGJW group in 82MS was the best; and the quality of mixed silage is better than only water hyacinth storage.Experiment two: Two kinds of moisture content (Short for MC1 and MC2) and three kinds of mixed ratio of water hyacinth and maize straw mixture were ensiled using two kinds of water hyacinth(Water rates were 49.15% and 38.61%)and two kinds of moisture content of maize straw(Water rates were 54.07% and 45.23%), and the mass ratio of water hyacinth to Maize straw were 9:1,8:2 and 7:3(Short for 91MS,82MS and 73MS)in three kinds of mixed silage, the control group(CON), fermented green juice adding group(FGJ), the formic acid adding group (FA)and foraform (FOR) was set in various mixed ratios. Ensilaged for 60 days at normal temperature, the pH value, dry matter recovery (DMR), gas loss rate (GLR), ammonia (NH3-N) and other indicators were measured with three replicates for each treatment. Results indicated that effects of three additives were remarkable in all silages,in which 73MS can significantly decreased silage pH ,but 91MS can dramatically enhance DMR.Experiment three: Water hyacinth and maize straw were ensiled at four different kinds of mixed ratio which were 8:2,7:3,6:4 and 5:5 (Short for 82MS,73MS) respectively whose moisture content were 84.41% and 77.92%.The control group(CON), fermented green juice adding group(FGJ), the cellulose adding group (CEL)and FGJ+CEL was set in mixture silages. Ensilaged for 60 days at normal temperature, the pH value, dry matter recovery (DMR), gas loss rate (GLR), ammonia (NH3-N) and other indicators were measured with three replicates for each treatment. Results indicated that, three kinds of silage additives had a certain effect on all silage, the pH value of group FGJ+CEL was the lowest in four mixed silage but for which, pH of LA,WSC and DMR were higher, however, pH of FGJ+CEL adding group was significantly lowered (P<0.01) in 82MS,73MS and 64MS silage compared to group FGJ and the group CEL. The additive effect of group FGJ+CEL on 55MS was best.
