Drive axle is main component of vehicles transmission system; it sustains heavy force and was used frequently, so it has positive significance for rapid and effective design. In this paper, drive axle parts as the research object to CATIA 3D design software for the platform, through the modular design, parts modeling, dimension parameter auto-acquisition, user interface customization, model update and other means of drive design, realizes rapid design system of drive axle.This paper illuminates the performance and several methods of CATIA secondary development in detail. Besides, parametric design principle, its key technology and parametric design methods of parts modelling based on feature are researched. In CAA RADE and Visual C++ environment, parametric design of 3D parts of drive axle has been implemented, and the system has been embedded into CATIA. To complete the automatic modeling of driving axle parts, the designer just needs input parameters in the software interface; the system can create drawing and assembly at the same time. In convenience of date share, the system use SQL Server2000 to manage dimension input by designer.At last, using the finite element analysis module of CATIA, this paper analyse three working conditions of axle housing created by parametric design system, and get the distribution of Von Mises Stress and strain of this three conditions. It proves that the max Von Mises Stress of axle housing is less than the allowable stress value and the strength of axle housing meets requirement. It also analyses free frequency of axle housing. The minimum natural frequency of axle housing is far bigger than the frequency created by road excitation, and it won't cause resonance when the tractor runs on the ground. The analyzed results shows that axle housing is reliable on static and dynamic condition.
