Shape design and engineering design are two most important processes in product style design, which cooperate and supple each other. The cooperation between them directly affects the quality and the efficiency of product style design. Because the style of tractor is not only decided by shape design, but also decisively affected by performance index. And it is strictly limited by its complex structure and craft. So, the cooperation between shape design and engineering design has become main problem in tractor style design. The research of the cooperation between them has become all urgent task. In this paper, the research method of tractor style design is mainly to coordinate the shape design and the engineering design, in order to enhance the technical feasibility of design, and unite the figure and the quantity in tractor style design.At first, the factors that do not favor of linking up shape design and engineering design in the procedure and the method of traditional tractor design are analyzed in this paper. And the related theories about the cooperation between industrial design and technologies are introduced synoptically. And then, do some research for method that making use of the function of CATIA secondary development to do parameter descriptions of the tractor, and get a series of tractor digital models that including different shape parameter. Proceed to the next step, the models above can be simulated in environment of CATIA, and a series of function parameter, such as through performance, minimum turning radius and vision scope can be got. Next, mutivariate statistical principle is used to deal with the parameters above. The inner link is found and represented in mathematical equation. Finally, software is written by using the language of VB to fix the relation above. In the design step, the software can predict some performance of product. These results have important significance for theoretical instruction and practical application.
